    What happens when Nids/Chaos meet

    Right...

My knowledge of nid/chaos fluff is a bit rusty, so bear with me on this.

The Tyranids have a large warp presence that disrupts warp communications/travel as they get close by.

Chaos, by it's very nature is a wapr-based thing.

So what happens when the two encounter each other? Do the Nids have an advantage, disrupting the warp/Daemons etc, or is Chaos strong enough in the warp to cope, or even overpower the Tyranids warp presence/disruption?

Was just thinking about this recently. Any help or clarification would be great .

Re: What happens when Nids/Chaos meet

I have a feeling any warp based stuff may be affected slightly and demons may be harder to summon, but other than that its fighting as per usual. The Nids seem to have avoided anywhere too badly affected by realspace incursions of the warp such the Maelstrom, so there isn't any real background out there as far as I know.

I have a feeling that CSM would certainly take a more practical view on fighting the nids though, happily running away instead of fighting to the last man. Apart from arrogance (which why wouldn't you have when you are a 7 foot tall superhuman who can crush people with ease and have survived 10,000 years in an almost constant state of war), they don't have anything worth dying for. They don't have the indoctrination of loyalist SMs anymore and as such, will run if they are clearly going to lose.

That the "Shadow in the warp" should be anti-warp activity in general is fan misreading/exaggeration/extrapolation/speculation...

It messes with psychic communication, because of all the traffic between the various critters drowning it "hearing" it, and it is harder to navigate, because of the same thing, it is harder to "see" (or psychic sense eqivalent to sight and hearing), and if you are psychically sensitive, you risk listening in to a massive stream of utterly alien thoughts and getting driven insane through being overwhelmed, but other than that, there is no canonical mention of it messing with other warpbases phenonema. Summoning daemons, teleporting and things like that works just fine, and advanced warp-tech like Eldar D-cannon do not malfunction more than usual when in a desperate fight against a horde of Tyranids.

    They party like its 1999.

It would depend is Chaos is in ascendance; if so they will have the advantage.

I used to read the GW Other Forum, but I am much happier now.

Hmmm ... It is written in the demon book, that psykers gone mad when a demon invasion was just about to come. But they never wrote such a thing when the Nids arrive. They only thing they mentioned was, that the contact to any other system was lost.
When there would be such a massive signal in all directions, many psykers would get the signal and be warned - but it is the opposite. No communication, no warning. That would stand against the "massive stream of utterly alien thoughts".

    EDIT:
In my understanding, the warp is a "this galaxy only thing". And the Nids came from another galaxy. So they must have another communication signal. (As I said, because I believe the warp is not present in other galaxies). The signal from this communication interrupts the warp because of its special nature (not from this galaxy). BUT: the stronger source will win. If there is a really string warp signal and only some Nids, the warp will work as normal. But is there a hugh Nid invasion and no special warp source, the warp will be shut down - no signal.

But as always, just my understanding.

Re: What happens when Nids/Chaos meet

I'd say that the chaos gods are a little more defined in the warp than the astronomican (and much more than normal psykers). Nothign might happen, or the nidz precense may weaken demons, or the demons presence may drown out the Nidz synaptic network. Chaos marines will just fight on as normal, provided they feel like it ofcourse.
