Because he is 300 points, unable to kill anything, not stubborn and vulnerable to killing blow. The entire point (and only real use) of him in a game is to tie up an expensive character in a challenge.

I agree though, things should be vulnerable to killing blow, it makes skulkers and things useful. However, i do think some characters should be able to get immunity to it (or a better save against it), it is slightly unfair when some armies (TKs, VCs, Deamons) have such easy access to it.

Many armies have no access to killing blow on a large scale to my knowledge

    Dark elves
    Demons
    Tomb kings
    Vampire counts
    Woodelves

Are the only armies with whole units with killing blow.

Every one else has one or two characters with access to killing blow and that's it.

So not that game changing really.

I just hope they don't do the same to Dwarfs, as being able to take the Rune of Preservation is very handy; especially since Dwarf characters are most easily built to survive damage rather than dish it out, and having Dwarfs that don't easily have their armour ignored is fairly sensible.

I can completely see it making sense to remove immunity to Killing Blow on hard-hitting characters like Vampire and Chaos lords, as these guys have high Initiative on large numbers of high Strength attacks as well.

I like the fact that almost all rules in Warhammer Fantasy actually mean something. Compare it to 40K, where you have a bunch of rules meaning jack, including some profile stats - the morale value does what exactly?

"Immunity to..." should be restricted to special characters. So I think the removal of items the OP mentioned is a good thing. If you want to not get killing-blowed: work for it.

Whole armies don't mean crap n 40k. Iremember when LD and I meant nothing in fantasy. 40k is wolf vs grey knight action.

It's not all grey knights versus wolves. Most people who pick up those armies often use the quality of the book as a crutch. (spoken as an old necron player)

On topic, they are removing immune because they were silly items people often didn't take. It was easier to deal with something some other way then throw immune kb on someone unless you were tailoring for an opponent. If that's the case, then its just bad form. I even built a hero to accept challenges and killing blow enemies. It was usually just kinda lame.

Yep, and anything that you pay 500pts for should be invulnerable right?

Seriously what is the point in rules like killing blow if everyone and their grandfather can take an item to make them immune to it?

The next thing you know you end up like 40K where almost every special character in power armour is immune to the instant death rule.

I choose scissors, with a special magic item that makes them immune to rocks!

If you have an expensive Character who is vulnerable to KB, don't put him into combat with KB units. The only army this doesn't work against is Dark Elves, because they can guarantee KB where they need it. Other than that, should be fine.

That's easier said than done! Winning the game in Army Builder only depends on you picking the right combos to make yourself immune to your opponent's special powers. Winning on the battlefield means relying on skill and chance to find and exploit your opponent's weaknesses.

Not everyone is cut out to be a table-top general.

Woah, woah, woah, stop there a second. Only every character in Terminator armour is immune to ID. This definately make the world of difference......

    I kid, I kid.

Either way they shouldn't be handing out immunity to special rules to anyone who asks for it, otherwise, whats the point in having them there at all. Really it takes some basic strategy to avoid having your general being KB's and it should. To be fair it doesn't even take strategy!

"Hmmm, my general is about to be charged by bloodletters, should I move him to a different unit or just out of their charge in general? This requires at least 5 minutes of thinking."

The fact that the game requires some thought now is a good thing since now you haven't won the game by the time you've finished writing the list.
Apologies in advance if any of my post appear to have words missing letters, my keyboard is faulty and I refuse to get another one.
After reading Valkia's book, I've come to this conclusion: Vakia is a strong, independant consort of Khorne, who don't need no mortal man to bring her down.

It's ok. After paper gets immune to scissors, scissors will get scissors 2 to bypass immune to scissors one. It balances out.

But what about rock that is still immune to paper?

    I would suggest Chuck Norris.

    Eeh..
It's a shame they are cutting away the Army Specific Magic Items. That goes for 'immunity' to Killing Blow as well as the rest of them.
I don't see why it's so wrong to be able to buy a bit of warranty against Killing Blow for some important, expensive character..

Re: Why are GW removing all immunity to poison/KB and stat test items from the new bo

    For the heroics?

Characters like Chaos Lords and Vampire Lords are meant to seem like nigh-invulnerable foes able to kill dozens of times their number in any battle. That's when their adversary in the opposing army steps up, and with a single mighty blow slays the fell lord and ends their threat forever. A sort of, against all odds moment where a sorely outclassed hero defies fate.

That's my theory anyway. GW just want a few more cinematic moments in their games.

They're not all that Army Specific when 3 or 4 or however many books have access to their own version of them. At that point they need to be cut or turned into a Common Magic Item.

I love that they seem to be deliberately removing these items, and agree with those who compared it to the Eternal Warrior mess in 40K. This is one of several 8th edition trends I see that convince me GW are actually paying attention to past mistakes and making progress in fixing them. Glacial progress, of course. I mean we're still talking about Games Workshop after all.
