    Space Marine Finecast Wave

I didn't see anyone else mention it. I'm currently trawling through the SM section to see what's "No longer Available" i.e. likely to be turned to finecast and what's simply disappeared. Just from my own perspective, i think this is the first signs of them starting to move all metals over to finecast, including less popular items that were always mail order only.

    Confirmed as finecast by WD

    Legion of the Damned Squad
    Damned Legionnaire with Multi-Melta
    Damned Legionnaire with Heavy Flamer
(It should be pointed out that while these show as "No longer available" as expected, all the blisters of two legionnaires, and the other sarge show as available, although there is no longer a Damned Legionnaires 2 Pack, just 1,3 and 4.) Many of the ones still available are shown on the facing page in WD.

Disappeared (See anymore please post and i'll add to the list as this is harder for me to spot cause they've gone)

Iron Hands Tactical Squad rumoured to become finecast upgrade

    "No Longer Available"

    HQ
    Marneus Calgar (in power armour)
Chapter Masters box set (all available individually except Master of Fleet, strange)
    Vulkan
    Kor'sarro Khan
    Cassius
    Lysander
    Terminator Chaplain
    Chaplain in Terminator Armour
Chaplain with Crozius and Power Fist
    Librarian with Staff and Book
Librarian with Sword and Bolt Pistol
    Space Marine Apothecary (1)

    Elites
Veterans MK1 and 2 (all available seperately except Lightning Claws 1 and 2)
Tyrannic War Veterans 1 and 2

    Troops
    Telion

    Heavy Support
    Chronus

    Dark Angels
    Dark Angel Deathwing Terminator
    Dark Angel Deathwing Terminator Sergeant

Notably still available (where not mentioned above)
    Kantor
    Shrike
    Thunderfire
Space Marine Casualties as they're shown on the facing WD page, which shows a battle between Orks and LOTD and Tigurius with tactical marines. (i.e. all the stuff they'd just said was gonna be finecast)
3 Pack of marine bikes, rumoured to become an upgrade pack for the metal parts

The Finecast wave was noted in the Necron thread, the leaked retailer list showed all these coming in with the new Necron models. IIRC the Iron Hands squad is now a Finecast upgrade kit, as is the case for Marine Bike 3-pack 'upgrade' bits.

Hmm, its a pity as the Iron Hands will therefore become more expensive... ah well, i only need the one more set.

At any rate the Necron post seems to have been moved or something and now that necrons are out i figure its useful for this to be in a separate thread for quick reference.

EDIT I've also gone through the Necron post and couldn't spot the list with anything more than LOTD and Tigurius, would appreciate a link.

Cue Failcast complaints? Do people still do that?
That's good news for me. Finecast librarians should make it easier for me to customise them and make into a Blood Ravens librarian combat squad.
So are these all rumoured to drop in one release? Guess that would be one way of "celebrating" the 1 year anniversary of Finecast...

EDIT: Sorry, only just seen the date in the table on BoLS, disregard my comment.
On another note, I can't help but notice this is all for SM. Any ideas if we can expect something for any other faction. I'm sure some WHFB players would like some love! (or maybe they would prefer to keep their metal models...)

Warhammer actually has a 100% non-metal product line already with the most recent Empire release. The entire line was converted over aside from a few conversion bits and a few collectors models that aren't really a part of the range (don't have an associated unit).

Ogre Kingdoms i believe are totally non metal as well, and i'm not sure there's much TK metal left

Good call on the OK. TK have a few metal kits left over (some characters, some specials and some rares), but VC only has 1 OOP special character left in metal (Zacharias on Zombie Dragon). That's 3 lines completely switched over, and space marines should be switched over with this release. Pretty impressive.

Space Wolves and Tyranids lines were converted to FC also, when thunderwolves and plastic hive tyrant were released.

Tonight they will add the advance orders at the webpage.

    Re: Space Marine Finecast Wave

I wish I'd known before the Legion of the Damned squad box disappeared, ah well, I think I've managed to get what I wanted in metal after a quick trip to eBay and a grab at the models not updated yet.
I'm not against Finecast as such, but I much prefer metal, especially when I thought that £20.50 was already unreasonably expensive for 5 metal models; I'd rather hoped for a plastic legion of the damned kit instead though, especially given the new price!

I don't think anyone would mind so much if Finecast were priced about the same, but the price bumps on already expensive models aren't exactly endearing. As much as I like the Legion of the Damned models, I'm much happier paying the new prices to get the old metals off of eBay

What about the Spce Marine Servitors...I can't find them any more (unless you count the box with the tech marine), but I want just plain servitors for my Iquisitor in my Grey Knight's army?

They disappeared ages ago. (When the finecast Tech Marine box set was released, in fact.)

Also, damn. I was hoping to get money to pick some of these up before they went out of stock. Well, less money for GW then I suppose.

On the BOLS list it shows the Iron Hands upgrade pack as being 23 parts where as currently it contains 24 metal parts... seems they're dropping a part. Hopefully if so it'll be the pretty ordinary left arm that supports a bolter.

    Re: Space Marine Finecast Wave

Confirmed on the blog today :
In this month's White Dwarf we mentioned that later in May some Space Marine miniatures will be released in Citadel Finecast. Well 'some' is a bit of an understatement because we're actually releasing 40 kits, from the Legion of the Damned box set and the Thunderfire Cannon, to individual miniatures such as Chaplains, Librarians and Apothecaries. There will also be a few resin upgrade packs available to order, including several Shoulder Pads sets. Make sure you pop into your local Hobby Centre this weekend or check the website on Saturday to see what we've put on advance order.

I've been wanting to start a Legion of the Damned army for a while but it looks like I'll be holding off. After all the stuff I stocked up on in metal for Vampire Counts, Tyranids, Dark Eldar, and Tomb Kings I'm having a hard time convincing myself to drop more money as I stare at the 20 boxes of Blood Knights on the closet shelf.

Looks like I'll be picking them up 2nd hand off eBay once I make some progress on what I have. I just have a hard time getting on board with Finecast stuff when there's a more durable option out there (even after they get their quality control corrected).

I just wish I had both more time and money to do everything I wanted.

I find this very annoying. If only they would tell us that they are removing an item from sale BEFORE removing it, then we could buy up all their remaining stock. What the hell do they do with it all? Melt it down? Give it away to staff? I know they won't do it as they want us to be pissed off and force ppl to buy finecrap, but you'd hope they'd want to make as much profit on those metals as they could.

I was actually planning to buy a termie chaplain, but now it's in finecrap? I think I'll just stick the termie sang-priest and assault squad in my stormraven and not bother with that land raider crusader I was considering. That's £50 less I'll be spending. Well done, GW, well done.

I think the problem is that GW thinks it's brilliant and thinks everyone else does as well. Following this train of thought, why warn people it's going to become Finecast? They'll all stop buying the metal models and wait for it to get remade. So in their minds, they're probably selling more metal models by NOT announcing the swap.

I don't mind the occasional resin model for a hero and I hear the Thunderfire Cannon was awful to assemble before. But I do miss having several metal models (I'm guarding the ones I do have jealously :P). The added weight just made them feel more valuable. It would be good if GW made options on their online store where you could choose whether you wanted metal or finecast while they still had old stock remaining. A simple check box or something...

Seriously? My bigger models tell me other thing when they fall, when I glue them (again and again) or when i have to bring them to battle.

Low weight is one of the advantages of Finecast. To prefer a model for its weight is just nostalgia and nothing else.

Oh, of course it's nostalgia. With big models I think making them lighter is definitely a good move (whether by plastic or resin), and lighter models make gaming easier for slopes or falls. But for infantry models, metal hasn't caused me too many problems and I enjoy the weight factor. It's easier to justify the cost of it when I'm cradling something nice and solid, than something light weight. Sure it's personal preference but so is sculpting detail and the number of parts a model comes in and all that.

I'm not anti-finecast, as I own a few pieces myself which are generally good and it's brilliant for the large models that required several pins to hold together and you never wanted to place on a slope above your other infantry. I don't buy into the hype surrounding it either way. I don't think it's the revolution GW claim (price rises and quality control make me sceptical), but I don't think it's the worst thing they've ever invented.

@ Skaven - Yeah, a lot of people do think it's brilliant. I mean, look at the positives of it; lighter models (if you're not nostalgic :P), crisp detail and resin. Resin used to be what special models were made from like FW, and is widely portrayed as a step up from metal. With GW downplaying quality control issues and people's complete trust in the company, why wouldn't most gamers think it amazing? So if we get announcement that something is being made into finecast, then every player that goes to buy a metal version of the model gets told that they should wait another week or two because a much better version will be released. Because I'd guess that if you looked at the figures that most people that by models from their local GW store aren't actually worried about finecast or already have enough models that they're not planning on spending heaps anyway.

It's all us cynical forumers who are experienced with the game and have the nerve to question the company who are iffy about finecast. But in the end we tend to suck it up anyway because we love the game.
