Despite the fact that people keep claiming they are the same moulds, they are in fact not the same moulds. They will have made a new mould for the finecast versions.

I never found the imperial pads to be so bad. They look a touch smaller. At least they fit on the Marines. The Chaos Marines need to be trimmed so that theirs fit. Anyway that's a bit off topic.
I can't see any ultramarine pads on this release. All I can see are the Fist pads. Am I missing something?

Does anybody - one of our members with trading connections perhaps - have a list of how the prices changed? I do not want to start a pricing discussion, but it would be informative to have such a list as news.
Nah, you're not missing anything. I thought he was asking if the Crimson Fists were going to be smaller like the Ultramarines ones, and also asking if the Ultramrines ones were the same size as the white metal ones. But it looks like in his post he said Ultramarines were coming out with this wave. No, the only ones out with this wave are Crimson Fists. Ultramarines already out.
Why ALL direct order - what s the reason?
Hope some goes to stres when the dex gets re-released

From a marketing standpoint this is something you don't do because it dilutes the Finecast brand. And right now for them, strengthening the brand image is more important than pleasing customers who don't want to or refuse to buy in. You have to remember the demographic they market to has shifter from older hobbyists to kids/teens. And figure they tend to get in and drop out much quicker than say a hobbyist that's been in this for 10 or 20 years. So what does a 15 year old care of his Marneus Calgar isn't going to hold up for 15 years, he'll most likely drop the game in less than 5. And if those models don't see a 2nd hand sale, all the better for GW.
Also, I'm pretty sure the resin costs for the models per pour is much less than what the metal cost is. What I haven't heard mentioned yet is the transportation costs to get Finecast to the store vs metal to the store. With the rising cost of fuel they have to be saving a lot of cash in the reduced weight.
But with all that said, is this the entire range of metal Space Marines that were converted over? I'm still hoping there are some that haven't been smelted yet.
They seem to have done a rhino/razorback with the crimson fists tactical and assault bits, free power fist ftw!

Hello
Thank you for your email. The Finecast would be similar to their metal counterparts but with crisper detail, the size should be the same as they are using the same master template to make their moulds. I hope that this is of help and if you have any problems please do not hesitate to get in touch.

I bought a set. Sure, you can model your own, but these look pretty good. Worth the $8 per figure? Dunno. But I bought mine for dressing up the base on a Forgeworld Eldar titan, so the time saved (compared to construction and painting of the titan) was worthwhile for me IMHO.

Not only are the Dark Angel terminators not in fine cast (why would they fine cast 2nd ed terminators anyway) but it looks like they screwed up the store page. Dark Angel Deathwing Terminator is listed twice.

...Bah, if you think so, the damn pack almost tripled in cost. It was €35 with the tactical squad included so €5 for the upgrade, now it €14,50 on the GW site without any marines in the set. I don't know, maybe it's more in line with the BT upgrade pack and all but that one at least has a boatload of parts compared to the IH one. Shame really, wanted to make some Iron Hand Allies for my apoc guard force, guess I'll just stick to non descript codex marines.![]()
When did GW release something? Was it plastic or metal? Who sculpted it? Come find out:Fantasy, 40K, LOTR, BFG, Blood Bowl, Epic, Inquisitor, Man O' War, Mordheim, Necromunda & Warmaster
the whole point of finecast was that they could use the same machines and process used in metal productions. The models them self's are very similar rubber to what you expect if you did any of your own resin casting at home, and as such wear out pretty quickly. There not metal like plastic production. There an old vid about there production line what get linked now and again on utube which is quite interesting.
Thanks to Tymell I had the chance to do a comparison of old and new prices for most of the finecasted models. People interested in such things can have a look here. Please take any and all pricing discussions there!

If I may ask, why would you think that? Moulds are different and changed on a quite regular basis considering you can have different injection points for the same model depending on when you pick it up. In addition since day one injections points for resin didn't have the same form than the ones on the old metal models.
I don't know what the moulds for metal and resin GW use really look like but even without that knowledge the miniatures sprues themselves shall confirm they are not the same.
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a miniature gallery!
The sculpts are the same, the moulds are not. Finecast moulds have more injection points to help remove air bubbles(doesn't really work, eh?), however the master model is exactly the same. Therefore the details on finecast aren't really crisper - they only appear so, because finecast isn't metallic and has deeper natural shadows.
