if it was the exact same moulds they used for the metal minis, FC wouldn't be waved in like this, it would just phase in as stocks of given metal minis ran low.

Correct. You can cast a resin copy from a metal figure and it will look extra crispy even though it is no better.

My resin Tomb King with great weapon has noticably sharper edges even when sprayed.
The ribs also have deeper recesses.

This could admittedly be due to the metal one being a bad cast but until I saw the finecast one I wouldn't have thought so.

Comparing some painted maneaters, the finecast ones look like the musculature is slightly better defined too.

The question is however is that specifically Finecast or could any resin do the same job without the flaws, for example, resin that most other companies use?

The metal was probably not cast as well as it could have been. GW metal seems to have been slipping in quality prior to the switch. I received quite a few metal minis with mould slip and extra bits of metal where the mould had torn. If the caster takes care, the detail will be not better.

Finecast resin isn't special. It's just regular off the shelf urethane resin that limited run miniature makers have been using for ages. The flaws are there because resin isn't dense enough to be spun cast without issue. To remove all the bubbles it absolutely HAS to be cast under 40-60psi of pressure.

So, there would be a technical solution to the problem, but it is not used by GW although they ask premium prices?

    Have fun,

Rather frustratingly it seems the new wave is not appearing in stores but is MO only!

Ahh well, saves my wallet this month!

I would say so. Notice how forge world figures never have the same bubble issues. Sure, a bubble here and there but nowhere as bad as finecast.
