Thread: Orc invasions of the Chaos Wastes?

Re: Orc invasions of the Chaos Wastes?

The current OnG army book details how grimgor has fought in the chaos wastes and became known as the "green daemon" to its human inhabitants. Grimgor gets bored fighting marauders and chaos warriors and then legs it back south

The timeline in the same book suggests that during the Great War against Chaos, Orcs either fight the forces of chaos or join them!

What page does it say that? All I can say is the account in my OnG book is completely different.

I tend to believe it's simply that most canon is written from the point of he races of 'good'. We hear an awful lot about OnG invasions of the Empire, Bretonnia, Ulthuan (with Grom), the Dwarfen realms but little about their activity elsewhere except in respective AB's. Doesn't mean that they don't invade the Chaos Wastes, just that we aren't told about it. You have to remember that OnG (while widespread) are more localised than races such as Beastmen and Skaven. Greenskins are relatively exclusive to areas of the Old World in huge numbers (except from perhaps the Dark Lands west of the Mountains of Mourn). If they wanted to get to the Chaos Wastes they would invariably have to fight their way up through the Empire and Kislev from the Border Princes, or pick their way through the World Edge Mountains further and further North. Not a task easily accomplished by anything less than a monstrous Waaagh.
Awake O Dead, for there can be no rest for ye beneath the earth. Let the splintered bones burrow from the grave pall. Let cold fingers grip time-worn blades, and unseeing eyes survey the fields of slaughter. For your time has come once more. And the dead shall walk.

Could it be because simply none of them get anything done? Like an invasion happens, gets hammered, and dies or runs home. Cant imagine it making much of a fun story when your army book trys making you sound good. Although there is that bit of fluff about the trader who goes north and encounters the village with the Weregeld (cant remember the name). If they can get that far as a trader i'm sure an invasion could be mounted into the outskirts where a few tribes live. I'd always consider the Chaos Warrior bands themselves that does most the killing up north.

Part of the issue (as of 8th edition) is that your regular Orc isn't like Grimgor, or even their 40k counterparts.

Yes, orcs like a good fight, but they're materialistic at heart and also like lots of plunder after victory (as well as lots of food). The only big commodity that the Wastes might hold for garden variety Orcs is slaves and food, and it's not like either are in scarce amounts everywhere else. Unless it's the Lands of the Dead but whatever.

You have to look for Orcs like Grimgor in order for there to be an invasion of the Wastes, out to kill anyone who looks like a good challenge and those are already special individuals among greenskin society.

There are already Greenskins in the Empire yet they still invade it. That isn't a reason really as Greenskins aren't one nation but a bunch of warlike tribes that beat each other into submission then fracture again.

It's been mentioned before that greenskins feel weird in a bad way around Chaos. In Tamurkhan the opposite is true as well - Chaos doesn't like Gork and Mork, and Toad Dragons definitely hate greenskin shamans.

Bear in mind though, if there ever was a point in time where it seemed like, say, a ceremony at the North pole was about to destroy the world, you can bet that there would be a hell of a spontaneous Waaagh of Orcs and goblins into the Wastes, not out of any feeling of charity or good will.

Maybe. That statement depends on whether you define Troll Country as part of the Chaos Wastes.

No the good guys are weak not worthy of a fight in comparison with all the bad guy ,until GW needs another evil army to make the good guys situation more desperate.

Especially when you keep in mind he was fighting skavens (in winter) and humans (summer) already and moved north because, yeah, you guessed it, he got bored of them.
And people wonder why I hate Grimgor. What's boring about him is certainly not who he picks a fight with

So after 2 pages of discussion I thought why don't I look up the answer using my army book...

Orcs and Goblins page 15 final paragraph. The answer to this thread is: yes.
