the whole problem with abyssal staff is you wont insta kill the paladins, you will wound yes, but not kill.Better off with using eldritch lances and mass shots from barges to kill the paladins....

No, AP1 2+ wound flamers won't do much at all. You need to get close enough to hit them and would you deepstrike close enough to use it to full effect knowing there are high odds of a mis-hap...?

Personally I favour Heavy Destroyers as they can move fast and avoid Paladins indefinitely whilst maintaing fire on them, though would be a little more expensive.
