    Deathwatch Strike Force

Its been a long time since I posted any project logs on here so I thought I would return with my latest one. This project started as a bit of an accident - in the new year I decided to sort out all the boxes of half used frames, various bags and boxes of random bits into one large box. In this box I had enough parts to make a small marine force. I thought of making the Siege assault list from IA:10 but after some random browsing I came up with a better idea as to how to make use of all the various bits and kits I had - a Deathwatch Strike force.

Since starting this project I have bought a ticket for Imperial Armour: Warmarch which is at Warhammer world in mid August so Im planning on taking this force to that event. The list I have come up for it fits what I feel a Deathwatch strike force would be, so expect to see plenty of marines with transports, a couple of squads of Terminators, a couple of Contemptors and maybe a pair of these rumoured Storm Talon gunships.

Enough rambling and onto some pictures:

My HQ, I may use him as a counts as Sicarius or another SC from an IA book:

Its a big first post, but I hope it gives you an idea as to where I want to take this project. Theres more pictures to follow.

    The next combat squad pip:

This event also has an award for Best Objective markers, so I thought Id use it as an excuse to rummage through the bits box and put a bit of effort into making some interesting ones:

    Thanks for looking.

Man, I love deathwatch squads, they look rocking once they're done! The completed demi squad, I spot a Blood Angel, a Space Wolf and an Iron Hand, what are the other two? One looks like a Soul Drinker.

I was gonna guess a lamenter due to the inferno pistol but there are no checkers...

This is great man, your guys all look awesome. I really like those markers too, but the sentry guns seem kinda boring compared to the tyranid ones. I've always wanted to see a lictor painted invisible, predator style. Probably too much work but it'd push you ahead for that best objective award. Keep it up man!

I like em! You did a great job with the shoulderpads especially, I think the colours are very crisp and stand out well against the black. Can I ask, where is the robot table thing and the astropath looking guy under it from? Forgeworld?

One is meant to be a Soul Drinker and the Vet sgt is just a chapter of my own creation, I did some free-hand on the shoulder pad:

I will be trying out some more free-hand chapter symbols throughout this project.

The infernus pistol is just going to count as a combo-melta. Im planing to blend the lictor into the base as if its just coming out of camouflage from its surroundings. Ive got plenty of time to think of some more Tyranid themed objective markers - I do have some ideas to make two more bases but not the key components.

They are both from FW. The Astropath is from the Hector Rex set. I bought two of those tables 3 or 4 years ago to use the arms for my Nob biker pain boys, thought it was about time to make use them.

Simply put, these guys are amazing. The thought put into each model is commendable and the execution of the builds and painting is top notch.

Thanks for the comment. The only one I'm not keen on is the plasma cannon, but I'm going to switch them out of the list in favour of some missile launchers and more meltas.

Good job. Especially on the builds and the terminators. I'm glad you didnt just use GK ones; I've seen that done and this look much better. More like marines from other chapters enlisted into Ordo Xenos. Shoulder pads work perfectly.

    Re: Deathwatch Strike Force

    Update time!

I have been busy working on this army since I last posted and have a load of photos of some of the stuff that I have constructed, including two Storm Talons that I finished tonight.

    Contemptors:

These are really nice models, Ive still got one Relic one in a box, but Im saving him for my GK's - I already need to buy two more for them as it is! Ive painted the non Relic one, but Im going to wait until Ive got some other bits painted up before I unveil it.

    Rhinos:

I enjoyed making these, and I look forward to getting them painted up. It made a nice change to add some kill trophies to them and the FW tank crew just completes the look but also makes them loads of £££££!!

Dudde - the bases are indeed made from cork. They are just mug place mats, nice and cheap. The sand is Vallejo grey pumice which I think is mush better than the sand / pva method.

    More to come.

    Storm Talons

I built these tonight - Im tempted to get a third one in future as I can't decide on three of these or three Dreadnoughts. They are a good kit, go together well with no real alignment issues. The only issue that I see with it is where the flying stand plugs in - there is the normal key point in the base of the fuselage but there is no form of backing plate so the flying stand just goes right up inside the ST. Now I could have missed this bit but Im pretty sure there isn't an additional piece. Im just waiting on some FW =I= brass etch to finish them off.

I also sorted out the daft looking nose AC. I had some AC left over from my two Stormravens so I just glued them in place where the original 'box' should go. I know that this reduces the weapons fire arc, but with where I have put the AC's it could still fire in a 45 degree arc.

    Hope you enjoyed the update.

    Si

These look awsome, I can't wait to see them for real.

How are you planning on tackleing the super heavies you'll come across?

Hi, I'm also attending Warmarch next weekend. I can't wait to see your army on the day, they sure are some beautiful miniatures Have you progressed with the painting yet? I'm consious that time is rapidly running out and I haven't picked up a paint brush in a couple of weeks. I was thinking of fielding An'ggrath as my super heavy (Gargantuan creature) but at 888 points he doesn't leave much scope for the rest of the army! As Capussa stated above how do you intend on tackling all the super heavies I'd expect to see on the day? I'm positive there will be multiple Warhound titans around which from past experience tend to leave gapping holes in the battle field when they fire.

    Re: Deathwatch Strike Force

Unfortunately I wont be taking them to Warmarch as I havent been able to get them finished. I havent decided what to take yet though as I have no idea how to deal with super heavies - I do have a Hierophant and Barbed Hierodule but the rest of the army will get vaporised.
