Those are really nice Anopheles!
On topic:
I only bought 4 Mangler Squigs because they are rather expensive. What we plan on doing is separating them and making about 8 different models out of those boxes. Sort of in the same vein as Anopheles has gone about it, except one of the squigs will be an actual Mangler model on each round 60mm base.
Not a big fan of these leeching manufacturers in general. If we place any value in this hobby at all we should actually be loyal to GW as far as possible (fine, a detour here and there perhaps.. but on average!) and the alternative models on page 1 are not 'better than the original' to a degree that would make me concider them over the official models.
Fair enough point. Consider my last comment withdrawn.
Well if GW did not overprice certain units people would less likely sell alternate versions. Also if it wasn't for people making alternatives GW would be able to overprice things even further. If the two products are similar price & quality then yes I'd probably buy GW model, but if I feel something is overpriced then I don't see anything wrong with using alternatives.

Well I did say "detour here and there perhaps" after all..
Most of my Greater Daemons are alternatives (they were just better lookin' models to the point where I couldn't bring myself to go with GW)
I have a lot of 'alternative' Heralds as well, because hey GW don't make 'em at all pretty much..
Before there was Plastic Seekers I got myself a bunch of the Gamezone steeds..
If someone, for example, were to buy those new flashy WitchElves models that 'some other company' has been advertizing lately I would understand that too - because GW should arguably have redone WitchElves themselves a long time ago and it thus serves them right to lose those sales.
However, things being expensive is not something I think we should hate GW for. They got a lot more mouths to feed compared to some little manufacturer who just rips off a concept and molds a similar model. Hell, half us guys on this Forum could probably do that in our living room if we really wanted to. If GW really could protect themselves and have 100% of their own market I wouldn't be so certain prices would necessarily be higher than now - all though that's what the common lesson of market economics 101 would teach us of course.
And in any case, these alternative Manglers posted by the OP arn't better than GW's models.. In fact, they're a fair bit worse - only cheaper!
If they were omfg-awesome it'd be another thing perhaps.. But they'd have to do a whole lot better than that for me to turn my back on the original.
Oh I don't mind them being expensive. It's paying 50-75% over what everyone else is paying for the exact same product for no reason that bothers me. GW would get a LOT more sales down this end of the world if they kept the prices in line with USA and Europe.

@ Rosstifer: Oh yeah the Down-Under shannanigans they're doing is just outragoues.. Us spoilt Europeans tend to forget about that. But yeah I've heard of it. Hat's off to anyone playing Warhammer in your part of the world, that's all I'm saying.
Really? How come they've singled out GW? I can go down to an LGS and buy a PP mini for almost the same as anywhere else. Still could explain alot, sounds like a New Zealand thing to do.....

Some companies are willing to take the hit themselves while others would rather the consumer bear the brunt of it. PP is new enough that making the consumer pay these terrifs would likely kill their hold on the market and run everyone back to GW.
You might be right, but generally NZ has some of the lowest tariffs on anything in the world. We went free-trade crazy before it was fashionable, in the mistaken belief that everyone would follow us....
We do have a 15% Goods and Services Tax, similar to the British VAT, but I can't see how that would make any difference. It's a lot less than the GW markup for starters, and British quoted prices include their VAT (is that at 17.5%?).
I think the simple explanation is that GW believes that the current NZ pricepoint is the right one for them to maximise their profits here. Lower sales obviously, but a gross profit margin that doesn't exist on UK-sold product.
Im probably wrong. I just know that was the reason I heard on a BTP video and it sounded legit.
Member of J.A.D.E.DTrying to convince Warseer that GW are anything less than perfect is like trying to teach a horde of zombies that lettuce is a perfectly acceptable alternative to brains.
Lest we forget
I already own over two thousands of euros' worth of GW official stuff.
That still doesn't hide the fact that the mangler is an absolute rip-off. GW themselves have far nicer stuff at a better price.
I had no problem paying for river trolls, demigryphs, aracnarock, new azhag wyvern, zombie dragon, a 2nd steam tank etc. just to mention a few expensive models I bought over the few months, the mangler is nowhere as good looking as those, and the price tag is outrageous, that's why I converted first (from official GW models) and then I bought this one for less than half the price of the official mangler (60% less actually).
It boggles me why wouldn't they make the kit in plastic. You see aracnarocks much less frequently than manglers which are basically an auto-include in every army (and usually fielded in pairs) yet the a'rock gets a much nicer and bigger plastic kit for less money than the mangler.
GW have basically shot themselves in the foot for this.
I all!
I notice you that the Painted version of our crusher model is finished!
hope you like it!
