Well, they have put out some minis in advance of the book - there were two or three O&G fantasy kits 10 months before the book and a single VC big gribbly six (I think) months before the book. That might be a trend. But the Daemon wave was quite a bit bigger than that. So odd, but not impossible, I guess.

Remember the running change to the old Dark Eldar army book? It might just be something akin to that - just an update to include the new units/changes without really being a new book. Of course, if GW is going to start doing that again, I would have expected them to reprint the Space Marine book to include the Storm Talon. Eh. It's a maybe.

I doubt they would do a full separate daemons codex supplement pamphlet if they were just going to do a daemons book a few months later.

For precedent, by how long did the BA WD pamphlet precede their 5e codex?

IIRC, somewhere around a year. And IIRc, it was inside the WD, not a separate booklet like we just got.

Correct, and I believe it was closer to a year and a half between the WD and the actual Codex.

the vampire counts army book was released in january this year but the Terrorgeist model and rules were released in august/October last year. that's a supplement only 4 months before the new book. also the storm talon and 3 ork flyers were released with 5th rules 2 months before 6th came out and changed there rules again, not the same point i know, but a short lived rule set that was quickly updated.

when daemons split from Hordes of Chaos, Warriors of Chaos received a new WD army list in may i think 2008 and the Warriors of Chaos army book was released in November that same year. only 6 or so months difference.

It was actually closer to 3 years. June/July 2007 for the White Dwarf and April 2010 for 5th edition codex.

i don't think that's important TBH. the update was actually very big and would have taken up alot of real estate in the WD. i know i gave examples above all printed in the mag but i dont see it being a factor. any thing can be updated any time if its printed in a WD a separate booklet just makes it easier to carry and tuck in to your codex/army book which i think was the idea.

Something like 8-10 pages, IIRC. With the addition of rules and images of the new kits, they could have easily dropped some of the many images of the models in the Wd proper to fit it in there.

images and advertizing of the models is what WD is all about, the rules are all ways going to be secondary.
