My group thought we could stick with 2nd after 3rd came out and fundamentally changed the game. Didn't work. The world went on without us, and we never found any other players outside of our group to play with. But maybe it did work...if 6th is supposed to make 2nd ed players happy. Maybe, just maybe, it did work...just 15 years later...

There is already a movement over at 3++ to potentially house rule the hell out of it, or make their own 40K. They say 'if 6th doesnt suck we wont continue' but lets face it. There will ALWAYS be a subset of players that want to hate on the current rule set, always. So I am sure some will continue to play 5th, some will house rule things a ton, some will make up their own rules, and most will play 6th, and enjoy the game.

People disparage GW a lot for their rules, and the sad fact is that 5th edition is the best 40k ruleset they have ever made. Doesn't stop it from being rather substandard however. As far as I'm concerned, things can only really go up. If I was to not play 6th, I certainly wouldn't then choose 5th. I would make a good game instead.

However I don't agree with your point that we should put effort into fixing it. If GW don't produce a game that you/we like, dump it and find a different game. There are plenty out there.

I'm sure you and your group will be better off, but people who are still in love with background, or appreciate the models, or enjoy the size of the community, will wrap their heads around the new rules and press on.

whenever I read this in a rumor post (and it's pretty much on all of them) I read it as: I made this up, but there is a 1% chance of it being true. Salt is just a cop-out disclaimer.

Post the rumor, get flamed if you're wrong, or congratulated if you are indeed correct.

My source just gave me a little shocker, multiple codex releases alongside 6th edition release as 6th edition will change many aspects of game play. I am not sure how much of this I believe myself but as usual pass along what I hear. The funny thing is if this is true it explains other rumours we have been hearing.

As far as fliers, He says I will be very happy with what the Tau get, and that their "air superiority" will be well covered. this is speculation at this point but that comment all but points to a Barracuda. (or similar Perhaps the Mako he mentioned is a GW version of the Barracuda) either way it's exciting.

My source still says to expect something on the Tau codex around June but refused to say what. I will post more as I get it.

i doubt it. something tells me there's going to be more tau getting smashed by marines, rules-wise. better ballistic skill? nope, can't have that. something to out-fight marines? nope. useful leaders? lawl. any blast templates? more special-issue due to 'prototyping'.

Patience IS a virtue, after all.

I wouldn't mind looking at someone's rule re-write. So long as it is done in a comprehensive manner, and is a solid rules set that is legalistic in nature and wording.

It's more than that. Rumormongers get genuinely excited about the rumors they get from their sources! They're just as much a part of the community as anyone else, and most enjoy the hobby in their own way.

To post an exciting rumor onto the internet.. and then have the community at large go ape on them and throw poo in their faces... It's not necessarily the reward that a person would expect. It's like someone carrying a bucket of water to a drought-ridden land. Yes, it's not much, but when the village dumps the water on the ground and smacks the bearer of water around for bringing them so little, or for bringing the wrong water... Well, that person's not likely to make that trek for more water, or for more rumors.

Why bother if you're not appreciated? They'll just sit on the rumors, content with what they know, and go on their merry way ignoring the butts that threw poo at them.

That's a prediction for 3 codexes this year and 2 40k waves in May made in April. Most rumor sources are indicating there will be only one codex and I think we all know how May played out. I'd say the accuracy rate is pretty low.

To be fair I did get may wrong, I didnt account for the space marine finecasts, so that makes 3 waves...

The internet is not a magical place where nothing matters. Being called a dick is being called a dick, online or not, and it's never nice.

TBH the bottom line is that good ol GW put out different versions of rules / codexes to different groups of people, so even if you have seen one of them, nothing is guaranteed. Also not all toys designed and even on sprue form make it into production, but they are shown off. Plus then you have to filter out against all of GW's misinformation rumours that they have people put out there and of course the people wishlisting / guessing.

All in all it means that nothing, no matter from which source is always going to be accurate. As someone who does post rumours from time to time because I have seen things, I find it fairly easy to spot who actually knows things that are legit and who doesnt as I know the other people who post rumours do also.

So lets just move on to all the cool stuff about to break! Aside from that marine flyer... that flyer is utter pony....

I heard a small rumour today. The 2012 fliers releases are going to be smaller fliers....aling the sizes of the necrons recent release...forget its name atm...as the more recent stuff like stormravens and valkyries are clogging up the tables a bit much.

The flier part will be targetted at small craft combat on the 40k skirmish level.

Usual rules regarding rumours apply of course.
