Very discouraging about the codex I agree, but I fear the new codex will come with a new range of figures that will be far less compatible with the current ones than the new GKs are with the old.

I like the current figures, a lot.
40K - SoB - was completed until the WD Dex ; GK - lots more to do now ; DE - starting all over again, Ravenwing successors - started ; Orks - how much to paint?!?
WFB - Orcs, WE (forest spirits), DE (WIP)

With all the new figures coming out it's a full restart for the DE now, and then there's a whole load of new GK & now a rebuild for the poor SoB - this has been a very expensive 12 months

Also extremely disappointed. Anyone know if they were permanently scrapped or put on the backburner?

Hopefully the Thunderbolt gets unscrapped. It may be because of the size, though, as the Thunderbolt is huge.

    Maybe the Lightning?

You're probably right; my memory is a fickle thing.

Remember the thunderbolt in Epic being about the same size as the ork fighta bombas. True that's Epic scale I rather think the Forgeword one looks very clunky and would love to see one of the size on a diorama I saw at a Golden Demon about .. sheesh 10+ years plus now? I'd not hesitate in buying 3 Bring back my Red Devils... *memory fade*

The current 40k scale Thunderbolt is about the same length as a Valkyrie. The Epic/Aeronautica Imperialis version is massively out of scale compared to the Eldar and Tau fighters from Forge World.

Maybe the limited one has something like two rulebooks? Pure speculation of course

@AndrewGPaul: the consensus on the AI models from TacCommand (one of the biggest Epic communities on the net) seems to be that they're a much larger scale than prior Epic flyers, and intended to be scaled based on the perspective that they're closer to the player than ground units.

    from faeit

I got something which doesn't make much sense on it's own but maybe if you know more. He says everything is pretty chaotic at the moment. At the moment he can't stock some dark angels miniatures, especially death wing stuff. But here is the weird thing: he can't stock space marine tactical squads. Our local gw has one left, didn't get any and can't order more. Our gw isn't small we have usually about 6-8 boxes of standard items. That he can't order death wing items, would make sense in the light of a new codex. Space Marine items make no sense.

He also confirmed that something was left out of the White Dwarf, he doesn't know what though. They've changed something in the White Dwarf to remove something. He told me they actually changed the cover. This would make sense I guess, because the Blood Angels cover doesn't reflect the contents or does it?
Wither or not this is true at all I have no idea, just posting this here

Titans are poorly scaled in epic as well. As are most vehicles.

    Re: 2012 releases

@gilljoy: The lack of Deathwing is no surprise because Dark Vengeance is coming soon, and the models formerly sold dated back to 1989. The starter set Deathwing models will probably be easily converted with the existing Terminator parts, so it may not be necessary for GW to release a dedicated Deathwing kit.

Regarding the Tactical Squad availability, perhaps this has something to do with the rumoured repackaging? Apparently GW has to do this to update the paints listed on the backs of each box, with the paint range overhaul having renamed many of the colours.

@tiberius122: I wish I new for certain! The most likely timeframe is between January and April next year.

    Re: 2012 releases

Probably doesn't mean anything, but the guy at my FLGS today told me they'd gotten an email saying they couldn't order any more Chaos Daemon codexes/army books. He implied imminent codex/army book release. This doesn't seem to fit with any other major release timeline rumors, though.

It would be very odd to put out new Daemon models if a new book was about to be released.

Wasn't there talk about a reversed release order for model waves and their codex? So perhaps the new daemon miniatures were the starting model wave for a new codex/army book.

    I don't think so.
