    Tales of epic heroism!

My dark elf sorceress was holding a gatehouse when i tried to take over a fort in our campaign. she got discovered and charged by 5 spearmen from the garrison. As she also had a spear the blows were struck in initiative order where, with her 2 attacks, promptly kebabed two of the enemy, moving away from combat and taking the other three out the next turn with a mix of shooting and close combat.

She later got shot down and i failed to take the fort but i took out 3/4 of the garrison for the ultimate loss of only one corsair.

What have your warbands been up to?
    Tell me of their awesomeness!!!

Gnarl can be said to have been chiselled from stone. He could take three times the amount of damage most others would fall to. He swings his great axe at the head of anyone unlucky enough to have made themself his enemy. Today, Gnarl was paid a hefty sum to fight against some foolish men and a few monsters. Gnarl saw one of the puny men running and decided that his teeth were worthy of the effort to get them. He cornered the puny man on the edge of a cliff and raised his axe high. Gnarl swung his axe as hard as he could at the puny human’s head, only to miss completely and nearly chop off his own leg. Swung off-balance, the human then stabbed his tiny dagger through Gnarl’s chainmail, severing a major artery. Gnarl’s toughness and stamina now severely depleted, he falls to one knee, begging for his slowed reaction time to not be as fatally inclined as the rest of his luck. But, as his initiative fails him, he falls from a height that shouldn’t normally hurt so much. Apparently the blood loss had weakened him to the point of exhaustion, as the fall broke his now-feeble body into a hapless shell of an Ogre.

The dice gods strike again, and another 80gc Hired Sword is sacrificed on the altar of unforgiveness.

Demuth: Ostlander Ruffian, that was to wasted to never understand what was dangerous. She outlived almost 1/2 the warband. The best "no-***t-there-I-was" story was when the warband fought against the Undead, had to have been 8 games in. We each had members leveled up and sporting stat increases to skill boost.

We had a hard fought battle that resulted in my warband having to pass Break Test every turn. The Elder, Priest and a few others were all that remained on their feet....and Demuth. Demuth, not being one to ponder overly much of ...anything. Decided to rip right into a pack of Dregs that were busy trying to drag off one of her family. She Bull Rushed into the fray, knocking down 1 and surviving the counter-attacks. The follow happened...2 dire wolves joined the melee along with the remaining 2 dregs (I figured that she was gone for good this time) instead she took out 3 of the 4. The final combat was against a Dreg that saw its head caved in. In 2 rounds she broke the Undead warband. Gets better. The Vamp passed the Break Test, and decided to stay and fight.

During the shooting phase the Demuth kept a steady string of insults and taunts aimed at the Vampire that he was so enraged he charged...and failed! The ensuing combat saw Demuth Bull Rush the vampire, knocking him flat on his ****!!! The follow round sees the Vamp stand up and gets smashed down!! All her attacks dealt crits.(only 1 counts, but still), she went into massive overkill!!!

The player called it after that. The After Action Rolls....saw the vampire lord roll 11. yep, my drunkard won the day...again!

A few weeks ago during my third game I think one of my troll slayers got taken OoA and broke her leg leaving her a walk2/run4 cripple, I then decide to pay up the 20 crowns and visit the sawbones. In a tense moment of holding my breath and throwing the dice I was certain I'd spent 20 crowns just to have my slayer die on the operating when I roll an 11 and walk away with a miraculous recovery.

And that's my only eventfull Mordheim story.

The most memorable character that I have ever had was a Mate (Champion) in my Pirate warband. "Tiny" was the second mate and his only starting equipment was a Club and Cat O Nine Tails. Over the course of our campaign he turned into M4 WS4 BS4 S4 T4 W2 I2 A2 Ld7 with Mighty Blow, Resilient, Step Aside, Hardy Constitution (pirate skill - ignore criticals on a 5+) and Weapon Expert. He had also located a brace of Crossbow Pistols. We played a campaign scenario in an cavern deep below Mordheim and I was trying to hold off two large Orc warbands from overrunning me. Tiny braced miself on a narrow bridge as TWO trolls charged him. We had a campaign rule that allowed Orc players to feed a goblin a madcap mushroom and then feed the goblin to the troll......so two frenzied trolls! Knowing that he had to try and hold, Tiny fired at both trolls as they charged, the raised his mighty club. After a flurry of dice (12 attacks) Tiny was still standing on one wound and so were both trolls both trolls with some sense knocked into them. I lost the scenario but people who played in the campaign remember Tiny above all of the other characters I have converted.

On a sad note Tiny met his end in the last game of our Storm of Chaos campaign as seven heroes tried to defend a village against a beastman herd. He felled 16 of the beasts himself before charging a Shaggoth on 2 wounds. He hit, he critted, he rolled a 1.....and the Shaggoth saved then promptly beat him into the floor with a Greataxe. A heroic death for a memrable character

One of my first campaigns, when we though hired swords used the hero injury table. The undead player had a legless zombie named stupmpie who climbed a building and diving charged an ogre who was on 2 wounds. One critical hit later the ogre was ooa... and lost an eye. A flying eye-poke from a zombie. In the same game a halfling was sold to the pits, only to be literally killed by a pitfighter in one round. Good times.

In a more recent campaign I had a T5 engineer. A swabby fired at him with a bow. Moved, long range , cover, bs 2. He needed a 6-6 to hit and a 6 to wound. He got a 6-6 to hit, a 6 to wound and a 6 to take the dwarf out of action. I was not pleased.

You play with rules that you can hit with shooting if you need more than a 6 to hit? Or are the somewhere in the rulebook that i've missed?

I think it's there.. under the shooting rules, just beneath the bit where they tell you what you have to roll to hit. Not sure though but we also play with that rule.

it's not in mordheim rules, it's normal for warhammer/wargame players to allow for 7+ hits, but its like letting a strength 1 wound a toughness 6 with an extra +2 save mod.

    Re: Tales of epic heroism!

Yesterday i had one of my fellblades take out 6 beastmen of various kinds while my leader survived first thre wounds from an ogre bodyguard (rolled 1-1-2 for injuries) and then passed his armour saves when 2 gors with clubs pounced on him.

My shooting however wasw abysmal. over 16 shots where fired, one chaos hound was stunned...

    Re: Tales of epic heroism!

In recent times, Brindles' Stone-breakers were searching for weird stone, and were viciously attacked by the green tide of Grabnobz WAAAAGH! When the stone-breakers saw the green tide moving toward their weird stone, their hatred fumed and Brindles himself went to crush these foul Orc invaders. Crossbow bolts fell upon the green hordes killing a boy, a goblin, and the Orc's Shaman leader. Finally, Brindles himself stepped to the plate, dispatching an orc boy and Grabnobz himself, forcing the green aggressors to flee.

EDIT: The Stone-breakers are my Dwarf warband.

    Re: Tales of epic heroism!

Yesterday we had the grand finale of our campaign culminating in a free for all between a beastmen warband, some marienburgers, my dark elfs and roughly 400pts of empire troops (signifying the local miltia and garisson trying to quash the insurgents).
    We had a points system:
1 point for every 5 wounds on the models you take out of action
1 point for killing the prince (pistolier/outrider)
1 point for killing the empire champion
2 points for killing his demigryph
5 points for killing the king (Empire captain with an extra wound and sword of power)

My warband performed admirably, killing off all the beastmen and about 1/3 of the empire contignent (including the demigryph and champion) but the last 4 of my warband were killed of in a last battle with the remaining (4) marienburgers.
    I now hate elf rangers.

More people should play Mordheim, honestly. It's a cheap way to get into the Warhammer setting and it's great at crafting these short but flavorful narratives. Great stories!

    Re: Tales of epic heroism!

played a game where my friends Hero was atop a roof and was hit from a newly hired Henchman, was a miracle shot, and took him OOA. My friend went the extra 10 yards.

On the street below our leaders where squaring off for a HtH showdown. The next turn his leader would charge into mine and he had a another Hero in charge range as well.

.....he looked up and sayed "I can't roll a 1"...which he then rolled a 1. He then swore....rolled 3 d6 (for each 2") and passed the models initiative and fell 6" down

....right on top of his Leader!!! Was totally a surprise and AWESOME!! The story-sense of it, the "can't believe you just did that" feel of it was GREAT!!! The resulting hit took the leader OOA!!! I was charged by the other hero, won and went on to win the game, but that was one of the best moments I've had in playing Mordheim.

The Leader did not have to roll on the injury chart. We spun a tale and figured my Leader was to busy trying to hook up with the rest of his Band and just ran by, stopping first to kick the sod in the head. Which "woke" his leader up enough for him to drag himself out from under his friend. Dazed, he dragged himself and the 2 other heroes out of the neighborhood.
