Chaos Dwarfs vs Empire 2000 points (Gamer's Liar, Barrie, ON)

So guys I started writing the battle report last night, but as I was writing up his army list it didn’t look right, so I started adding up his points (as I have the empire army book) and I basically stopped after 2600 points! The guy cheated beyond cheated, and during the whole game I was getting so frustrated cause everytime I got into combat it was like, “oh ya I got like three characters in this unit too, and they are all kitted out with magic items” and during the magic phase it was “so I have a powerscroll, dispel scroll, book of ashur, channelling staff . . . .” it was just ridiculous, I don’t know why I didn’t think of asking him to see his army list!

Needless to say I got crushed. However, some incredible combo’s he used on me that I recommend for any potential future empire players.

Hellblaster with engineer is that good. Use it to shoot at elite units as S5 with armour piercing is very effective.
Grand Master with runesword and other trickster’s stone/helm (whatever). The runesword always causes a wound, no armour save, and making him re-roll ward saves is amazing! He can kill almost anything.
The chariot that adds +1 to hit. WOW! His basic **** spearmen was hitting my 17 point guys on a 3+. Add a warrior priest and if you can get mindrazor (which of course he did once a turn as he got 4 channel attempts plus channelling staff) and your ****** empire guy is amazing.

He has 2730 with what you listed. I would guess that the bsb and the foot wp were not naked so probably more than that. He is as over in points as the empire player that beat the guy playing tomb kings whose thread is right around here

Always assume that an Empire army with more than 2 units approaches 3k. This stuff is expensive.

so it would seem. i will see him monday and confront him then. i'm hoping it was just an oversight on his part, it's just frustrating cause it's difficult to make time for the hobby, and then when you do find time for a game when your opponent beats you unfairly, for whatever reason either on purpose or not, just feels like a waste of time.

Missing the mark by 100-150 points can be explained as a simple mistake, but more then 750 points over...cheating...unless he thought you and him were playing a 3k battle or something?
Still, confront him...never play him again if he's acting like a jerk and warn other players about him! If he says sorry, play him again in a proper rematch!

Even so, it doesn't look right for a 3k army. It honestly looks like a 2k army gone wrong, I'm sure we've all had this experience where we're down to our last 200-300 points in our 2k army selection. Then we're like "damn I wish I could afford X, Y AND Z, what a dream army that would be". It looks like he wasn't able to stop adding choices after the points cap and this would be his "ideal" 2k army if he could fit everything he wanted in there.

That one is sort of excuseable, as you used to be able to give a unit of state troops a magic banner, though now you can't. Equally, he could just be cheating more.

The difficulty with this is that anyone who could accidentally add in 35% more stuff to their army must be a bit of an idiot, but he played the army competently, suggesting that he knows what he's doing. Stll, the only thing you can do is ask him about it, and keep him from doing it to other people.

so he didn't come monday, so i probably won't see him for a while as the store is not open next monday for the long weekend. anyways, i'm hoping it was just an accident, but as mandragola suggested he played competently so maybe he knew all along and was cheating?

It is probably best to assume honest error rather than outright cheating unless you are sure and just check next time.

I'm going to try to not jump to any conclusions and assume it was a mistake, which i hope it was, as i've played against and with him before and does not strike me as the cheating type.

I once got into turn three of a game and had the thing almost won already. Without having had any particularly good luck I'd almost tabled him, and I could not figure out where he'd spent his points. So we swapped army lists, I looked down his list and said 'mate, I honestly can't figure out where you spent 2,000 points'.

'2,000 points' he says, 'I thought we were playing 1,000'


So I don't know, maybe your opponent thought he was playing a higher points value. Afterall, he did tell you what he had in his list. Then again he could just be a cheat.
