Path of Inquisition, get ready for the War! (part 1)

Some of you could remember an old subject in White Dwarf which spoke about building a Chaos army with 50 pounds/ mouth.

But I don't like Chaos, I'm starting 40K and I'm from Belgium! So... I don't have Pounds I have Euros, 50 GBP is nearly 60 Euros or nearly 78 USD.

For You Non Europeans Friends I Give you a converter ( http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert/?Amoun...rom=EUR&To=USD )

    What about the army?

As I said I Don't Like Chaos So... I'll build a Grey Knight Army. Mainly because I like the Background and the figs.

    What to start?

An Army is 2 troops choices and 1 HQ.

But I Just have 60 Euros... Crucial choice...The troops choice? The General and one troop... But Which one...Termonator or the "simple" Grey Knight...

I like the terminators and the general have the same armor then them... So General and Terminators

Now The Bill (I hate this word...)

I Took the fig of Stern as General, I Won't play the caracter... Price: 20.25 Euros (22.25 USD/ 14.50 GBP)
Terminators.... 35 Euros (28 GBP(Nicer Number, hoo.. No GBP, I dreamed it was in Euros)/ 50 USD(Ugly number for my eyes, Beurk!!))

All of that for... 55.25 Euros! (I'm Nearly Mathematician!!!)

Let's build all of that and see you soon when the painting is finish!

I often hear from Friend of mine that GW is expensive ( and it's true! GW has created the Philosophal Stone!).

I just want that Topic would give an Exemple for young Players to developpe an Army, quietly, step by step, getting a bigger Army each Mounth with a few Amount of Money.

When I started Warhammer Fantasy more than ten Years ago, a box of 20 figs (now if you have 16 you are lucky!) cost 600 Belgium Francs (Euro wasn't created yet), nearly 15 Euros (nearly 9GBP/ between 20-25 USD), we had a fidelity card etc... Now OK I admit, more plastic, nicer figs, I'm glad, but look at the prices... It became a luxury game.

I must still have the old white dwarf, I'll check it for you tomorrow to show you the article.

Good news, Units are nearly finished. Pictures comming soon

My friends and I once spent a year building new armies with a budget of $50(US) a month (about 31 pounds). We did allow $100 for the first month, plus the codex. By the end of the year I had something like 2300 points of Eldar.
    Once upon a midnight dreary...

I'll be doing something similar to this when the CSM's new book gets released. If nothing else, it might encourage my rather lax painting.

it is expensive, but only if you want a large army right away. If you take the time to do an army properly (ie. building and painting it to a good standard) the expense is actually quite small, given that it would be spread over a long period of time.

take your time, it will pay off with a beautiful army, and won't melt your wallet.

And as a bonus it will be months and months before you get to play with it. Everybody wins! #sarcasm#

Also, the expense is exactly the same, in fact in pure monetary terms it might even be higher as you might lose out on discounts for big purchases or just suffer one (or several) price rises over the time you build it. Now, I can understand why you might want to do it, and especially for a veteran who got other armies and just needs a project it's a perfectly fine way of doing it, at least for some. If you are a beginner I'd say that at the very least you really should get a force you can play with right away. Now it doesn't have to be a large army small games are perfectly fine, but if you want to play the game as oppose to just painting, starting slow is a good way to kill any enthusiasm you originally had.

all you need to play, marines for example, is a tactical squad box, and a champion. You exaggerate.

I may do something similar, either stripping and repainting my Thousand sons or possibly doing an Emperor's Children force....

Re: Path of Inquisition, get ready for the War! (part 1)

    Few delayed but still here!

I saw the price of razorbak and one of the GW store staff told me " Razorbak and Dreadknougt are useful but only by pair"

Why, they are too light to be alone, both are too easy target rapidly destroyed. And I need another troop choice.

I bought grey knight, cheaper than terminators but not so strong, they are on the battlefield to shoot and keep positions against enemies with psycanon and standart weapons.

Now I have enought to play small battles

    The painful:

For the grey knight, 26 euros (20.50 GBP, 33 USD)
Black spray paint 12.50 Euros (15.75 USD, 9.50GBP)

All for 38.50 Euros (30 GBP, 48.75 USD)

    less than the 60 euros

But... I have bad news for the US players... Games Workshop seems to be few more expensive in USA and good news for the UK... You are few cheaper than Belgium but not enought to pay the train from Bruxelles to London (72.50 Euro).
