    Recommended matt varnish

I've had a lot a bad experiences with various matt varnish sprays leaving a frosted looking effect on my models which totally ruins the paint work. I've tried several but they all always have similar effects.

Can anyone recommend a good matt varnish? Should I just forget about the spray ones and just go for a paint on option? As I can't seem to find one that doesn't leave a horrible after effect on my models.

    Thanks.

    Re: Recommended matt varnish

I've tried a few different spray brands myself - for fine art, craft and decorating - and had the same problem, as well as glossiness and once, a strong jet that left a puddle of foam on the test surface.
The best I've tried so far is Humbrol matt spray, because it worked, and worked well. In my opinion. I've never tried Testors dullcote (haven't seen it in shops and it's tough to get sent in the post) so I can't compare, but I'm pretty satisfied with Humbrol anyway.

I don't know if thast's one of the several you've tried, though.

And I'm not sure how many shops in Mordor carry it.

Thanks Verm1s. Yes buying most modelling supplies in Mordor is a pain, those pesky Wringwraiths are always stealing my things!

I've not tried the Humbrol matt spray yet so I'll give that a go.

depending on postage etc, testors dullcote is well worth tracking down, i was very sceptical of this "super spray" that was banded about ! i first used it on some eldar dire avengers, which had been inked with the old gw inks, so were already shiny, followed by a blast of halfords satin varnish (yep thats right halfords satin varnish for models, gives a very very good varnish but does leave a little too shiny), after id done this i was regularly hearing "oo arent they shiny" from my mates, which prompted me to try dullcote. i will say after using this ive done everything with it now, it completely removes any trace of glossiness, leaving a nice matt finish on my models, if i can ill take a pic of one and post it tomorrow so you can see, but i would definitely recommend dullcote (assuming you can get hold of some) - maybe see if you can get an eagle drop into Mordor ?
