Because the question is silly, yours is not a netlist, netlist implys you went on the net, picked the most powerful list available at the time with the intent of winning only.

Of course you know what I meant when i said netlist, you only asked to be difficult.

Ive never walked away from a game, i find that playing 40k people are generally nice if you can judge character and play the people you wanna play against. I havent played many tournies but even they have been alot of fun too.

No, I was under the impression the netlist was about the list, not how it was acquired, it being the standard most powerful list the internet is going to advocate. Wether I developed it myself or picked it off the net, it's still a list with a horde of templeguard with a lore of life slann. I could be a nice guy who picked it off the internet, or a dirtbag who spends his time finetuning the list untill it turns into the netlist by itself.

Even so, how are you going to figure out at the start of a game if that person gravitated towards that list by himself, or took it off the internet?

Although I never have played in a store, since I've been ignored since I was younger because gamers are just anti social.

    Not really.

I wouldn't like to spend much time in the company of someone aggressively touchy, readily accusive, and rudely dismissive, either.

You really have no clue do you?, if somebody cheats it has nothing to do with any of that, if somebody belittles or mocked you it has nothing to do with any of that.

Stop being argumentative for the sake of arguing and trying to impress people.

Never walked away mid-game, but I have needed to cool off after a awful defeat (due to insanely bad luck, no I am not bitter but when one fails every leadership check AND rules ones for every run roll, it gets bad). Mostly I just muttered and cursed myself and tried not to take it out on my extremely annoying opponent who refused a rematch after I lost (chickened out and other people thought he should've played me again).

I just went outside and cool downed for a bit, mostly just cursed my dice. Overall not that bad.

I feel kinda bad about that now. Especially since he was apparently a she, a 15-yo she.

I had pretty much the same experience on Saturday - my old ability to roll a buttload of ones came back with a vengeance! Fortunately I still enjoyed it a lot.

I've had other games where things went badly, but I just went through the motions to finish. That probably didn't make it much fun for the other guy, though.
I don't mind chatting during a game so much, but the worst games are when you're at an urgent, pivotal moment; you're on tenterhooks and you want the dice to roll to find out what happens; and the other guy is off in la-la-land, chatting to someone else about the latest Apple Mac OS or something...

Re: Walked away from a game?

Experience has taught me never to concede. On more than one occasion an irretrievable situation (which may have resulted from both outrageous fortune or poor play on my part) has miraculously turned around. Ultimately this is a dice game so there is always a chance of turning things around. That's half the fun but it's also worth bearing in mind that part of becoming a better player is learning to adapt to different situations (i.e. having a Plan B, C and D). It's also amazing how many seemingly lost battles are only so because you have failed to think outside the box. In 40k in particular I have won objective games in which I would have been soundly defeated had it been a kill point/VP battle.

Luckily I've never had to quit a game due to my opponent being an ***hole but I wouldn't rule it out. Time is a premium and I wouldn't want to waste it playing against an unpleasant person.
WDL record with my Swooping Hawk themed Eldar list:-

    W: 2,836
D: 2 (I felt sorry for my opponents and started firing at my own units)
L: 1 (I played against myself using my undefeated footslogging Fire Warrior list and lost)

The only time I've ended a game early is when I couldn't stand any longer. I had done my ankle the day before and was struggling to stand. The GW didn't have tall enough chairs other than that I don't play enough to either trounce someone or be trounced.

Re: Walked away from a game?

I walked away from a game that I wasn't playing... but there is a bit of a story behind it.

One week I was having a battle against the local WAAC player in 7th edition warhammer. I was fielding an empire list against a lizardmen list, where I had the advantage in ranged firepower. So I decided to stay put and start blasting away at the enemy, after which my opponent started whining and threatening that he would quit playing if I just stood there and shot at him. Being relatively new to the club and not wanting to make a bad impression, I started moving up some of my troops even though it was clearly a bad idea to reduce the amount of turns shooting against an army that would rape me in close combat. I lost that game and the opponent was quite happy with his awesome skills *cough* *cough*. Anyway, I wasn't fielding a gunline or anything and I pretty much decided I would try to avoid this player. We played a 1500 point game.

Next week the same WAAC player is playing Empire against Warriors of Chaos. He basically fields a 2250 gunline with minimal amount of close combat troopers. His movement phase exists out of shuffling some 10 man strong spearmen units and moving his steamtank. At which point I point out to him that he is doing what he was whining about last week. He basically says thats not true because he moved his 3 10 man strong spearmen units (for like 2 inches), his knights and his steamtank and besides he would get raped if he moved towards those warriors of chaos! At which point I walked away.

Luckily for the club his GF who painted and assembled his figures split up with him about a year and a half ago and he quit playing warhammer shortly after that...

Re: Walked away from a game?

You know, i can't think of an occasion I have ever "walked" from a game or even really been tempted to. The closest I've come was conceding a game with my Tomb Kings in something like turn two or three because my Heirophant got killed (largely through my own mistakes, I should add) and it was obvious I was going to crumble to dust well before the game was up.

That said, I wouldn't rule out walking away from a game entirely, but you'd have to do something pretty drastic to make me do it.

Re: Walked away from a game?

The only time I've ever given up was during my second ever game. It was on a store night, with my totally fluffy and impractical 2k all-mounted OnG army (In 8th ed. I know, I know), and the shop staff, in their infinite wisdom, paired me up with a well-known Power Gamer, who was using a WoC Mark of Tzeench deathstar with BSB and General, followed by a Warshrine, and backed by a unit of Chosen and Tzeench sorcerer lord on disk. It was utterly, utterly brutal. After 2/3 turns, he'd lost a couple of models (literally), I was getting slaughtered, and he was clearly loving every minute of it, standing there looking at me with this big cheesy grin on his face. At which point, I offered him my hand. It totally killed my enthusiasm for a few weeks.

Re: Walked away from a game?

At my local GW, space and table time seem to be at a distinct premium, so if a game is only going to end one way (and I do mean ONLY one way) it sometimes makes sense to call the game and allow others to use the table. Simply holding out for the sake of it rather than being able to affect the outcome of it seems rather pointless IMO. In a perfect world I would fight to the death each and every time, but for the sake of convenience it seems more sensible to let others get some games in also.

    With regards,
    Dan.
