Daemons 1500 for Throne of Skulls (v2.0)

    40K Army: Chaos Daemons
After a bit of re-hashing and testing of the origional list ive settled on the following:

    Keeper of Secrets: 235
    Sporific Musk, Unholy Might

A replacement for my GUO. Whilst the old greater daemon was doing OK, i found that he was too slow to make a meaningful impact on the battle

    Herald of Tzeentch: 100
    Chariot, Bolt, Master of Sorcery

    Herald of Tzeentch: 100
    Chariot, Bolt, Master of Sorcery

    4 Bloodcrushers: 200
    Full Command

    4 Bloodcrushers: 200
    Full Command

    5 Fiends: 160
    Unholy Might

Dropped down from 6 to fund the Keeper of Secrets. However, they have gained the Unholy Might upgrade which will provide some minimal wounds allocation hopefully equalling out the lack of 2 wounds

    5 Plaguebearers: 75

    5 Plaguebearers: 75

    5 Plaguebearers: 75

Reduced from 3 units of 6. I dont think that this will be too much an issue as at 1750 I run 4 units of 5 and they perform just fine

    Daemon Prince: 140
    Mark of Tzeentch, Bolt

    Daemon Prince: 140
    Mark of Tzeentch, Bolt

These are proving to be quite reliable so they stay in. their lack of T6 is still a concern but they go in the first wave with 8 Bloodcrushers, the fiends and the Keeper. There are much more scary things on the board and are usually ignored over other targets

please let me know your thoughts/opinions.

    Hi,

Looks pretty soild to me - a very intimidating first wave as well.

What have you learnt from playtesting? What kind of things have you come up against?

I think you're right - 6 Plaguebearers won't survive much longer than 5 against an enemy that really wants them dead. How do you find the Heralds?

So far ive tested the list against the following armytypes:

Draigo-Wing (Draigo, Paladins, Dreadknights). Managed to get a draw in a 2 objective game. It was pretty much a case of slowing down my opponent until the game ended. Everything is expendable when all you need to win is one unit of troops on an objective :P

Tyranids (Lots of hormagaunts backed by ample support beasties). The Princes died early thanks to poison but once the bloodcrusers and fiends hit the game was pretty much over for my opponent.

Space Marines (Mechanised with lots of Meltas backed by Twin Auto-Canon dreads). The GUO's lack of speed really hurt here. There were enough meltas to take down the larger monsters to just a couple of wounds when they hit combat. Easily the hardest of my games.

Dark Eldar (Bombers and Venom-Spam). This is where the Princes and Heralds came into their own. My wave 1 was all the shooty stuff and the two units of crushers. They did alot of damage to the AV10 transports and the rear armor of the Bombers. Again the lack of speed from the GUO hurt the army as he landed late in the game with only a small unit to fight (not that he could catch the rest of the transports...). Massed poison was a pain and the fiends messed up in the last turn which resulted in a loss for me.

Overall, the Heralds are performing solidly though the Princes are better Bolt Platforms. The GUO, whilst really hard to kill just isnt fast enough to keep up nowadays. It is nice though sitting him on an objective and watching my opponent struggle to kill him. The Crushers always perform well and the fiends are dependant on their rends for real damage but otherwise are pretty good.

Yeah, I play mono-nurgle and it's hard to be able to get the GUO to bring any kill to the table. He just gets kited too much. However, I've been thinking of keeping him in reserve and then having him DS in next to an occupied objective. Might be a way to use him. He would either displace a wary objective holder, or assault a stubborn one, in theory.

I like it, cant see anything I would change....

My Daemons run two GUO's again mainly in support of PB and for their survivability... Your list has alot more directed range than my own, and you skipped the Grinders, was their armour a weakness to the list?

Scorps because when Eldar want to be sneaky they put on heavy armour.

A BABY - [QUOTE=Surgency]IMO, start them young... At 2 months, they make a GREAT giant for large games... They have stomp attacks, yell and bawl, and if you hold them up right, they'll jump up and down

I prefer this list to your previous version - looks good! I hope I don't match against this at Throne - I can see myself struggling with it!

Yeah me too; the first wave is horrifying!

I can only say I would take more Fiends than Juggernaughts but really it's not much of a problem.

Maybe I'll see you there in July.

I have actually tested grinders before (2 with the blast upgrade). the problem is that when they hit the ground, they make things easier for your opponent when firing heavy weapons. the issue goes from 1 las-canon firing to maybe take a wound off a prince or guo to 1 las-canon destroying a grinder.

the next problem is the actual use of a grinder in your list. If you are bringing it for CC, Nurgle princes will stick around more and with the right gifts are just as killy. If its for anti-tank, Tzeentch princes hit easier with a nice 4++. I guess for a hybrid choice its not that bad but i prefer the reliability a prince brings to the field.

Ah ok. I've never played them, and was just wondering. I usually rely on princes as well. I have been considering getting one of those plague hulks as of late, though...
