Re: Forgeworld Newsletter #305 :Mark IV Assault, Tigrus Bolters,Terminator bits

I guess I'm in the minority, but I love this newsletter. Yes, the Terminator Weapons pack wasn't thought through too much (or was it? More profit...), I LOVE the Mk. IV Assault Marines and the Tigrus Bolter set. The Mk. IV look like they've been in a long campaign and have been making field repairs, great. They'll work well for Heresy-era armies. I know they'll eventually show up in my NL army.

The only thing that gets me really excited about this newsletter is the potential that they are going to do a massive single engine jump pack for the mk III assault squad, as seen in horus heresy: collected visions.

I know FW have to drag these marine releases out a bit, but it's getting daft now. Another variant set of bolters? People have been asking them to do packs of weapons and heads for ages, and rather than doing a set of ten bare heads or packs of combi weapons or something that everyone could find a use for, we get more bolters. I mean, they're nice and everything, but enough's enough.

Very disappointing. Starting with the fact it wasn't Warhammer Forge - I know FW are under no obligation to alternate FW/WF, but the last four weeks have been FW, FW book, nothing, now FW again. Give us some WF love!

Then looking at what it is: variant Assault marines. Oooooh that's different, oh wait no it's not. A set of boltguns, as if marine players don't have enough of those lying around already. And some Terminator bits, some of which are quite nice, but only available in a whole set when you might only want to use a couple of parts, which doesn't exactly make for good value for money.

    Very underwhelming.

It's almost as if they're building up to something.

    But that would be ridiculous.

I'm probably being a bit stupid... but what are those terminators for? I mean rule wise, which list could actually use that pack? Forgive me coz I'm rather rusty rules wise these days, I could see them for wolf guard as mentioned, and as the basis for chaos bits, but in both cases you'd need to decorate/convert... so can this set be used as is?

I ask, because for some reason even though I really didn't like the standard Tartaros pattern Termies, I really like the look of these ones! 50 notes is very steep, but if they were useful... And for that money the rules ought to come on a nice quality card print out IMO

I agree with this. There are plenty of units (and their upgrade options) which are lacking models - but instead of releasing them we're getting these. Nice (bolters and termi weapons) - but they really could have be smuggled in under a bigger, more interesting release. Or more useful release. This just comes across as a "slow news week" release.
I'm not a Space Wolf player, nor do I really care for them but - for the love of God, just release the Bran Redmaw (or whatever his name is) model already, just so the FW facebook page isn't filled with the "when are you releasing...?" question. We know you have it (or at least nearly ready), just get it over and done with.

This post was not at all inspired by me wanting FW to release a model of Vaylund Cal just so I don't have to make one myself which will inevitably look terrible ¬_¬

Still not a fan of these termies, and the jump packs are a bit dull as are the bolters. Still, it's a nice filler and after the excellent storm eagle I'm sure they are just releasing these as fillers til the next biggy.

I plan to get a set of the new bolters. Not for the bolters, which are OK but no Phobos or Umbra Ferrox. But for the awesome looking bolt pistol holsters. Far better than the little holsters on the plastic kits that look too small for even a las gun.

I like the bolters, almost a carbine look to them. Therefore I like the holster bolt pistols and the combi-bolters. I don't like the assault Marines (despite loving mk4). The terminator set is amixed bag. Why only one powerfist!? Where is the other lightening claw meant to be used?

It is an upgrade set for the terminator kit, which already comes with a bunch of powerfists for the other hand. The one in this kit is a right hand, to make a pair of claws, while the Tartaros terminators comes with 4-5 left handed fists already.

Re: Forgeworld Newsletter #305 :Mark IV Assault, Tigrus Bolters,Terminator bits

I like the bolters personally, they remind me of the old 2nd ed bolters. I might get some.

Not fan of the Termie kit, I agree they should have broke up that kit into LC's, TH's and the combis, each to their own package. Those combis would sell like hotcakes then. The way they're packaged now, not so much.

I've never been a big fan of the Mk IV armor in any form personally, I prefer the Mk V.

The bolters look nice, but they are just bolters. I wish they had of released a set of just the combi weapons those look great.

Re: Forgeworld Newsletter #305 :Mark IV Assault, Tigrus Bolters,Terminator bits

The terminator stuff looks cool, but like other's said it would be better if it was avaliable in weapon specific sets. Those combi weapons look like they'll fit perfectly under the barrels of the FW bolters though, so I may still pick up a set.

The bolters are brilliant, I've been wanting to get my hands on these since I saw the one on the tank crew. However, why is the other stuff included? Why? I honestly see no need for it.

Now is it me or do those Assault Marines look half scultpted? They seem to have the quality that I'm used to seeing on FW's WIP stuff, while still good quality, certain areas seem to lack definition. If I ever decied to do a full on heresy army though I'll probally pick some up.

Couldn't disagree more, I love the look of the assault marines, jump pack and all. My favourite thing about them is the lack of iconography etc on the armour. Allows me the freedom to add chapter iconography myself using the red scorpions etched brass kits or plan old green stuff. A nice blank slate.

But honestly I think they look nice as they are, they have an advanced feel about them IMO

I for one appreciate that the pieces are relatively clean instead of Rivets Everywhere like many recent marine sculpts are.
