I don't play WE, so i'll answer about the "resin or metal"? Resin (finecast) is easier to work with, but some people report problems with it, so I advise you open the blister at the store to check if it's alright. Black and white primer are both good for green, it depends what effect you want to achieve. Black primer is, imho, easier to paint with, but the general tone will be darker by default. can't help you with the paints, I'm not yet familiar with the new ones.

I'll have to test the effect of each primer. I'll paint 1 glade guardian with each and I'll compare as I qurrently have both and no idea of how white works (I'm painting a Tomb King with it at the moment). When you say easier to work with, you mean only modelling (as they are soft) or also painting? As painting plastic is easier than metal, to what of those do you think resin is closer?

The Resin vs Finecast is more of a preference thing. I'd recommend Finecast since it'd be good to get used to it, cause it ain't goin anywhere, unlike the metal. It's lighter, the glue designed for it works great and if it tips over, less chance of the entire arm falling out of the socket. The cons is that some of them aren't the best at standing up and not falling over. The metal had the weight to it so that wouldn't happen, but the finecast just doesn't, so a little bit of washer gluing to the bottom or magnetized moving trays with a square of sheet metal on the bottom might be called for. Also, I've found that painting on the finecast is a little easier and less flaking off. The primer seems to get on there easier.

As for the coloring, I like your idea for the wintery look. For the elves, I'd go white. The new paints make it easier but black would work just as well. There're some High Elf painting articles on the GW site (Or at least there used to be) that went over how to do the elf flesh tones and they primed black. And the "official" look in all the GW books for the high elves used white and blue so shouldn't be that hard top convert to your color scheme. As for the Forest Spirit side, Charadon Granite. Base that, drybrush some darker green and some brown (maybe mixed with some black) then some blue for the wintery feel, then have fun with the bases.

Also, look at some of the HE/DE characters/Casters. There's some good converting options. I personally like the male spellsinger model, but the female one looks like a hassle and prone to tipping over as far as metal goes. As long as you paint with the elf skin tones for your army, I don't see why a DE witch wouldn't work well. And I love the HE BSB/Lord box set. Altho there's no way to stand that stupid on foot BSB up without magnets and a whole lot of prayer.

I prefer black primer for everything - regardless of what I'm painting - and as for the paints...

better to ask the staff - just tell them what your looking for in terms of the end result. You should only need:

    1) Some kind of base coat (which you should SPRAY the army with using a spray gun!)
    2) A wash
    3) A highlight color - if your lazy drybrush it on. If your not lazy edge it on - or do both

And that should be fine - the goal should be no more than 3 colors, NO MIXING OF PAINTS to get the look you want - as anything more, or mixing, is too complicated

Wood elfs beign old and very old? Now i feel old, i still have some if the old war-dancers laying around, and some of the old glade guard. The WE book was the last book i bought before 7th edition HE (which i bought a few months ago).

And the high elf core sets are older than both tomb kings and wood elfs, much older. (though when i compare with the seaguard form IoB I'm glad they haven't updated the core sets, giant hands aside)

High elves are certainly the cheaper army to buy if you go for Island of Blood minis. Just as a side note, in my opinion, the wood elf wardancer miniatures are some of the best GW have made.

I play wood elves myself and wouldn't change them for any other army. They are great fun to play and paint. I see you've already decided to pick them so congrats to you! Just as a side- note, they actually can be pretty powerful, even on tournaments; for example, at the last big swedish tournament (60+ players) Gothcon the number one and number two players both played Wood elves. And not even the typical power builds you see on the internet - the winner used a forest dragon and two lvl2 Lore of Ahtel Loren- magicians.

We used comp. I played WE and ended up 28th. We also used the comp diff to award additional VPs.
Plog of Jericho - Wood Elves, Daemons, Beastmen, CSM and Whatnot.

House: Yeah, 'cause I worship Santa. Or wait, is that Satan? I always get them mixed up.

That is indeed very nice to hear. Ilike the army and the more I read the army book, the more I want to field my own WE army.

    Nobody expects the Woodelves!!!

They are great fun, and unlike Skaven or dark elves noone prepares for them.

I would say High Elves, they can be tough to learn but I can never seem to beat them. Taking a level 4 lore of life and giving the elves +3T is a nasty thing to beat

Same can be done with Wood Elves as tgey have both lvl 4 wizards and access to the lore of life. Of course you mean that the spell makes a better combo with the best protection that the high elves have access to... but I just added my comment.

    Re: Wood or High elves?

    Very good choice sir
Woodies were my first army and although I love my lizardmen they will always b my favorite army. I've been playing with them a bit more lately too, I'd get a treeman he always does me good. And for some reason my friends freak out when they see him on the field.
I'm painting mine in the autumn theme

Also I wouldn't b surprised if they get a new book here soon, 7 years is a long time
