Anyone ever try white vinegar as opposed to Micro Set?

For some reason the bottle caps on my Micro set and sol bottles cracked and I spilled the Micro set one (gods what a stench!). I don't need any paints or new models so paying for shipping on just one bottle of micro set seems like a waste of cash if I can get away with using vinegar. Micro set pdf describes it as having an ''Appearance and odor: Aqueous solution with vinegar odor." So 'aqueous solution' could be anything. Wonder if it's just distilled water and white vinegar.

So has anyone tried vinegar instead of Micro set?

    thanks.

By all means give it a try on a spare model, but I doubt vinegar would be the only active ingredient, or necessarily work at all. The description may merely mean that Micro-Set contains some acetic acid (just as vinegar does), or something else that smells similar.

I've used white vinegar, seems to work fine, and word on a lot of scale modelling fora suggest micro set is pretty much just vinegar.

I've also used surgical spirit and find that works faster. The transfer does start to bubble and melt a little which, at first, led me to believe id mucked it up and ruined the transfer. But as it dried, it returned to normal and was stuck fast.

That sounds like the Micro-Sol effect. The second part in the process wrinkles the transfer then delivers a nice finish, but it horrifies you in the process lol!
