    Tourament Legal Crypteks?

What are you guys using for Tournament Legal Crypteks, upgraded to different harbingers? The fine cast one is holding a Staff of Light. How does one make a Tremor Stave or Abyssal Staff, and how would you show the difference between the two?

I have never had anyone say anything to me about crypteks. There literally is no description for the other staves being anything other the a staff. Just be able to tell which model is which and your cool. I just run the same harbinger type in each unit.

    Other than the Eldrich Lance.

I've (and everyone else I've seen actually use Crypteks) just used the basic Cryptek model, or something similar, for the bulk of the unit(s), and converted models for anything which isn't a Harbringer of Destruction - so the differentiating feature isn't the staff, but the Cryptek himself.

My Court is four of the base model for Harbringers of Destruction, and a converted Cairn Wraith for a Harbringer of Eternitiy.

It's pretty simple to use the official Cryptek model for something "special" or upgraded, since he's brandishing that fancy orb that could easily be a Solar Pulse or Chronometron, and just kitbash plastics for the rest.

My original Eldritch Lance Crypteks were Warriors holding the Deathmark guns, but the arms don't fit quite right and they honestly look a bit underwhelming. I've been suggesting people instead make minor alterations to the Rods of Covenant used by Praetorians, which end up looking almost identical to the rulebook/Szeras's official Eldritch Lance just by clipping off some of the bits:

This is what I have been doing, but also using Warrior bodies, Cryptek heads, and modified Deathmark/Warrior combo torsos.

I did the same thing as DJ3 but used the new Immortal bodies. They ended up looking more like Deathmarks then I liked. The Rod of Covent trimmed down look better. I attached a pic of both unfinished side by side.

Here, these are the 4 crypteks I came up with to go with my 1 finecast cryptek to create a full court. They are lined up from left to right in the order that I made them, which is why the leftmost one looks the lamest The guy on the far right will by my chronometron. A chronometron is a giant watch, right?

    Re: Tourament Legal Crypteks?

Usually I use a Warrior body, Deathmark head then whatever bits I have. That's the result, and yes, like someone once mentioned my Abyssal Staff looks like an hairdryer. Without official pictures people can't really complain that the weapons don't look like they should . I highly doubt they would not be considered tournament legal.

Btw, the resin Cryptek doesn't hold a Staff of Light as far as I know, the Lord in the Barge kit do.

Your cryptecs are amazing... Why would they not be tourny legal?

I disagree... The finecast cryptec has a staff of light. The overlord on barge has a warscythe.

None of the crypteks can take a staff of light can they?

    Thanks.

I was under the impression that a halberd with the long tube along the blade was a Staff of Light but after checking the old Codex that was indeed the design of the previous Warscythe iteration. It's funny because if you build the resin Cryptek with the little trinket in hand then it becomes an illegal build as only Harbingers can have upgrades and none of them use a Staff of Light.

I think it is commonly used as Aeonstave.

Thanks for the comment. Regarding the Crypteks, the unupgraded ones automatically come with it.

I like the use of the Cairn Wraith, it even has a face like a Necron... :-)

It is the standard weapon that all crypteks start with, to upgrade to specific harbingers they have to trade it in though.
GM:"You awake to a beautiful morning, the forest is peaceful as a zephyr whistles through the tree branches"
Bob:"A Whistling Zephyr? I waste it with my crossbow...ha I rolled a critical hit...28 points of damage, is it dead?"
GM:"What? of course not you *****, it just carries on whistling thru the trees"
Sara:"Guys relax a zephyr is just a breeze"
Bob:"Breeze my ass, it just took 28 hit points and it's still whistling at me!"

...And it seems to be legal to NOT upgrade, so if for some reason you want a bunch of staves of light with no other upgrades, you can take them that way.

    Re: Tourament Legal Crypteks?

Somehow I never realized that you don't have to upgrade them. This is actually really good news. I have played a couple games with a staff of light bomb to great effect. I attached Obyron to 5 court lords with mindshacle scarabs and 1 res orb as the only upgrades (Sometimes attaching an overlord as well) then teleported them around blasting stuff. Opponents refuse to assault them on their turn with all the MSscarabs. It seems like a huge points sink, but its worked well so far. Now I can add a couple crypteks with staffs to the unit too!
