    Mindshackle scarabs?

I just started using these with a royal court, and was a bit confused about one aspect of them, namely, if I have multiple models each with their own Mindshackle Scarabs, and they are all in base contact with a single enemy model(say, a Trygon), does that model take a test for each set of Mindshackle Scarabs, or just the one?

I don't know the exact wording, but I would assume they would all "stack"

The rules as written indicate that the model would have to take multiple tests but would only get one set of "attacks" if any of the tests are failed rather than one set per failure.
Specifically, there is no rule that says a model can't take more than one Ld test or that they can't be affected by multiples of the same "weapon" but equally, the effect requires them to give up their normal attacks to get the D3 hits and once they've given those attacks up they can't give them up again because they no longer have them.

I'm not trying to get the target to attack himself d3 times for each set of MS's, just wondering if I can go down the line until I get one that works(I assumed the effect didn't stack, just the attempts)...

At a min it works that way, but I'd have to see some wording that says it can't stack to believe it doesn't stack multiple times.

Well, when a model fails the LD on 3d6 his normal attacks are replaced with the mindshackle attacks, so once you fail one of the tests, you don't have any normal attacks for the other mindshacle scarabs to replace. I thinks that is how it would work anyway. I have started playing Necrons, so if it was D3 attacks for every failed test I wouldn't be sad about it...

I think d3 for each fail would be a bit cheesy, far as i see, the d3 is purely for being under the influence of the MSs...

If you paid points for each of the MSes, I'd think they'd each generate their own test when possible.

Yep test until fail then hit himself d3 times or he passes them all, there good with a tesseract against MC's wounds them selfs then sucked into a rubicks cube also works well against IC's.
