    Painting Common Trolls?

Having recently picked up the paint brush again, I'm slowly working my way trough my backlog of unpainted stuff.
High on my list are my three common trolls, as every Orc & Goblin army I've fielded in 8th edition seems to include them

The models for them are the Battle of Skull Pass troll, the troll with stone club, and the troll with bone.

I really like the paint job the 'Eavy Metal team has done on them, but I am at a loss as to how to reproduce the greenish-grey colour used for the trolls' back.
I picked up some Eshin Grey today, but on closer inspection that colour seems to be too dark...
Their belly seems to be painted with Pallid Flesh (I think).

Another thing I'm unsure about is the hair and spines on the back of the trolls. Would it look nice painted back and bone respectively?

    Any suggestion are welcome.

Well, they were painted with the old paints. From my eye they would have used catachan green up to rotting flesh for the stomach.

Not sure what that translates too on the new line but see if you can dig out those colour or borrow them from someone you know to take to GW and find the closest colours.

A dark, brackish green shaded with a mixture of the base colour and a dark grey. Then for highlights the base colour either with something akin to rotting flesh or kommando khaki or perhaps one of the lighter greys like a fortress grey equivalent.

Thats what i'd be trying. Sorry i cant help with the new paints.

Yeah, the new paints are a constant struggle for me as well
I've been looking at Dark Reaper grey (based on the colours on the GW website). It's grey with a hint of blue...

The colour of the back looks a bit Like Charadon Granite to me. Or possibly a 4:1 mix of Shadow Grey and Graveyard Earth. I used it on my marines here if it helps. That was highlighted by adding Kommando Khaki.

Sorry I can't give new paint names, I haven't used them yet.

    Re: Painting Common Trolls?

I got a number of greys and greens together and painted two trolls with different colours.
One I tried with Catachan Green (as I thought it would be dark enough - turns out it wasn't) and the other with Charadon Granite.
The Granite looks pretty decent, so I think I'm going with that.

I'll have to strip the green troll though. Having never done such a thing I once again come before you...
    Any advice would be appreciated.

If the troll is metal, any good hard paint stripper will work a treat. If its plastic, something like Mr muscle oven cleaner, dettol, break fuid or a US product called simple green works a treat.

Your base coat will be likely a mixture. I'd start mixing some dark greens with greys and maybe even browns to try and get close to that base colour
