Thread: Greenskin at heart

    Greenskin at heart

Well I can't help it. No matter how much I try and paint my Necrons there always appears to be a orc sat close but that tricks me into panting it. Anyway thats my excuse. So yer this is going to be my thread about everything green (well my WH orcs anyway might make a new thread for my 40k ones). Anyway you might have seen shots of my army before. Well I was looking a it and reaslied I hated how organied it looked. (looking at WAB celt armies and the cool units with huge variety probably didnt help) So yer I've decided to revitalise them by making them all unique in gear and colours. Granted this may take a age to do given I have this to paint/repaint but still it's enjoyable so far (again granted I only have 5 models done).

Anyway here are some pictures of my orcs. The idea is that they are all from different tribes and are generally not very organised. I also plan to have some orcs armed with spears and two hand weps in units with shields (how I'll probably run them anyways). Now providing my oppenents arnt absolute WYSIWYGers I should be fine as long as it's only a small amount of each differently armed orc and will help addthat rabble appearance to them. Right as I'm running out of time to post this here's the first look at the few minatures I have painted via much drybrushing and washes.

    Hope they arnt to bad.

Thanks and I'm glad you like the patterns. They seem to help them pop a bit more and seem a bit more individual.

Just another couple of lads and some a group photo of what I've got done so far.

Spear dude with a buckler for a shield and tartan clothes (or attempt at)

Random orc you can't realy make the image out on (its like the red face on the shield). Probably my least favourite orc so far but hey some have got to look slightly beat up right?

    Colourful but not too bright.

    Finally group shot.

    Re: Greenskin at heart

Well I'm back into gathering up the boys again. Some dam crazy female orc convinced me to move the whole tribe away from our former hunting grounds and although not to far away we's orcs and organisation isn't our strong point. Anyway we've fanlly found somewhere new (just over the hill from where we started ironically enough) and I'm now banging heads together again to get me a proper Waaaaagh started!

(OOC: Basically haven't updated in ages due to moving into a flat with my girlfriend and as such paitning is even slower (it's apparently possible). I do however have soem stuff to show).

Right first lot o' lad's to stumble across our new hunting grounds was these here Black Orcs. Tough bunch they was and gave some of my lad's a right kicking in but I smashed der leader with my axe and they's was so impressed they've decided to join da Waaaaagh!

Basha's Bloody Boy's are what they's call themesleves and you can see why by looking at thier armour. All covered in old blood and everything. I reckons they roll aorund the battlefield after each battle. Anyway here they are.

(OOC: This unit is goign to be a depoature fromt he rest of the army in that they have a unified look to them. This is due to me wanting them to stand out as an elite unit and also due to having thought up the background for them. The banner was my first go at freehand painting and although not briliiat I'm happy with it. Oh and why a orc? Cos there the toughest stupid!)

Next is old Guzbag. Dunno where he came from but he as these visions and stuff. He's in direct touch with Mork and Gork and even make them appear on da battlefield. Great fun that is even if Gork does occasionally step on my troops. Don't get on the bad side of the sour faced grumpy old git though otherwise he'll make your ead explode all over da place.

Right that's your lot for now. The ladz are beginnign to fght eachother again and after da last time da Bloody Boyz broke the gfighting up. I'd rather they didn't have to do it again. Had to gather up a load of new boys after that I did.

    Till next time.

    Waaaaagh!

(OOC: Please note that Guzbag is still a WIP. The Black orcs though are all finished minus the movement tray.)

'Much crumping had to be done but we's managed to subjagate some of dem other tribes in our new area. Here's some of dem der boyz'.

'As you'z can see we's got lot's of diff'rent bouz from lottsa diffrent tribes with us now'z. Oh well'z they all orcs so dey still crump da enemy if youz point them in da right direction. Oh and also old Guzbag da grumpy old git.

'Anyway's thats all for now. We'z got more crumping to do'.

    'Waaaaaaaaaaaaagh Gornak'

(OOC: Sorry if the pictures are a bit dark still I will try and take them at better times of day or try using the lights next time. As you can see I've really tried to vary the look of the orcs, even going as far as to add a night golbin themed orc (though admittedly I've done the shields badmoon symbol the wrong way around but hey). There's also a savage orc themed drummer and more attempt at tartan. I've also started reapinting the old bright orcs and changed the base edges to brown as it makes them feel more gritty in my opinion).

'I'm bac again ladz with an update on da boyz.'

Got a update to this thread finally after god knows how long. Sorry about that. Anyway got the urge to paint up some of my orcs (for both systems) lately and am really enjoying painting green again after nearly painting up 1500pts of marines.

Anyway unfortunately there isn't many new models painted but more along the lines of some of the previous models getting updated as my painting style and (in my opinion level) has increased since I last painted them.

Firstly here's the updated version of the Black Orcs. Just edge highlighting on the armour and an extra highlight level on most of the miniature but it seems to make a fair bit of difference (at least in person). Just got to do 19 more now.

Next an update again of some of the boyz I've shown above,. Same thing as the Black Orc really just further highlights and armour edging. Also shown is the standard which I'm currently painting alongside the shot gun ork for my Nob army in 40k. I think i still need to bloody the standard up a bit as it looks a bit clean still but we'll see.

Now before I post this I would liek to say that the splatters on the standard are meant to be blood not fire which is kind of what they look like in the photo.

Also I've done a skin recipe for the standard guy in case anyone is interested.

    Skin
    Base: Gretchin Green
    Wash: Green
    Layer: Gretchin Green
    Layer: Camo Green
    Highlight: Nugling Green/Desert Yellow
Highlight: As above w/ Bleached Bone

There you all go hope you enjoy and I will try and actually keep it updated this time.

Just another small update for you all. Now regarding the standard although I was happy with it it didn't have the feel I wanted it to have. The idea is that it was meant to be made from skin but the original didn't look like this . So I tried to rectify it and redo it to look like it was made up of lots of different skins but it looked really disjointed and not very nice. It would also have been really hard to replicate the effect on my already painted Black orc Banner which I don't want to damage the freehand on. As such I went back to a single skin colour but tried to make it look like it was made up of several pieces.

Below is the result of these attempts as well as another updated boy to join them making that six models all finished so far and my recipe for the rusty armour as requested on the Warseer forums.

    The rust recipe.

    Base: Warplock Bronze
    Patchy Layer: Boltgun Metal
    Stipple: Blazing Orange
    Stipple: Warplock Bronze
    Lightly Stipple: Boltgun Metal
    Edge Highlight: Mithril Silver

There you all go. Not much but hey its still an update. Hope you enjoy it and comments and critiscms welcomed.

'Right now you'z lot has had all dat turkey like time to get back to krumping dings.'

Well got a bit done since last time I've updated this thread so thought it was time I did a new one. The boys unit is coming along well and I've only got four more boys to touch up (plus 16 black orcs) before I can start working from plastic up. Planning on painting up 20 boys before I move onto the Black Orcs properly.

Anyway speaking of the Black Orcs here's the updated banner bearer to bring him more into line with the new one for the standard boys (as in knitted skin). Had to be a bit careful however as I didn't want to have to redo the freehand this time as it was a bit more complex than the crossed swords.

Anyway here he is with the rest of the Black Orcs.

Now that's out of the way here's some of the new regular boys as well as a shot of the whole unit. Finally have the first legal fully painted unit.

Night goblin themed orc for no reason other than it was a Warhammer specific design rather than the middle ages approach I was going for (Celtic, viking etc) and I wanted a few mixed into the other guys. Plus I like the shield design.

Random spear dude with an attempt at ripped effect on the material on his shield.

    Savage Orc themed musician finished.

(CONTINUED BELOW DUE TO IMAGE LIMIT)

    Re: Greenskin at heart

    (CONTINUED FROM ABOVE)

Random guy that's a bit brighter than the rest but hey there all meant to be random. Not sure what I was going for with his shield but I think it turned out nice.

    4 New guys together.

    The unit so far.

That's all for now though I got all this loot for christmas so I may get sidetracked soon (and probably begin a Lord Of The Rings/Hobbit thread too).

If not then here's a list of what's on my desk at the moment to paint.

    4xOrcs
1x Small squabbling unit filler containing two orcs and some loot.
    1x Ork Nob

Anyway I'm off now to doing some good old partying so I hope you have a good New Year and enjoy this last update of the 2012.

Warhmmer themed boardgames from Fantasy Flight that my lovely girlfriend got me for christmas where you take the role of one of the Chaos gods (or the Skaven with the expansion pack) and play a slightly risk esque game and try and destroy the Old World.

    Update Time:

Happy new yearz youz lot. Gots da furst update of 2014 ere for yaz!

Well firstly I hope everyone had a good new years and didn't drink to much fungus beer.

Secondly I've got a small update for you all. Completed the next three boys on the painting desk so have a total of15 finished now (not including the four Black Orcs). Just the ones that make up the unit filler and the two guys with spears to go till the unit is finished.

    Anyway here's the photo's.

    Firstly another boy in blue.

Some boy with a funky shield design about to hurl himself off a rock at the enemy (or another one of the boys).

A rather simple evil looking boy with a huge cleaver.

(Sorry about how dark the last image is.)

That's all pictures wise for the moment. Below is the recipe for my blue as per request.

    Blue Recipe:

    Base: Mordian Blue
    Layer: Mordian Blue/Ultramarines Blue
    Highlight: Ultramarine Blue
Finally Highlight: Ultramarine Blue/ Blue Horror

Oh and as usual before I forget here's a list of whats on the painting desk:
    1x Orc Nob
5x Orc Boy's (including one base used in an eventual filler).

Right that's all for now. Hope you've all enjoyed the first of hopefully many updates this year.
