    Nerevarine's Dark Elf Log

About three years ago I decided to start a second fantasy army: Dark Elves. Soon after, life got in the way and I never painted the elves. I recently dug them out and started painting again. I don't really follow an armylist since I'm just going by whichever units I had already assembled. For now, my goal is to finish most of my unpainted models I have laying around and get a painted Dark Elf army going. Apart from the Dark Elves there are some random Bretonnians around that require some colour. I'm not the greatest painter, but I try to get my models to look as nice as possible (:

First up are my dark riders. I converted them from Wood Elf glade riders. I opted to go with a blue/black colour scheme with light leather accents. I sculpted feathers on the cloak where I cut off the spears and quivers. The movement tray is not yet done and I think the bases lack something as well. I might try out the new textured paints on them. I'm not sure about that yet.

Second is one of my assassins. I have three of those as I opted to go with the Watchers of Karna from the Lord of the Rings. This was the first miniature I did in the blue/black scheme.

    Thank you, LocaLicious!

Today I finished a unit of crossbowman and started working on the back rank of the warriors. Painting those is much less fun than working on the dark riders was.

Instead of painting spearman this weekend, I fiddled a bit around with a spare Bretonnian Pegasus. I made the rider from a spare Cold One Riders torso and Bretonnian Knights legs.

Great start and nice colours. Don't often see that colour scheme.

I've got a sizeable Dark Elf force I haven't touched for a while so I'll keep an eye on this.

    Thanks Jez!

Finalizing my bachelor thesis stopped me from painting a lot the last weeks.

Most of the attached pictures are still WIP.

The spearmen have the two back rows done. The shields are a bit duller than on the picture. To break up the monotonous spears a bit I made a small unit filler: a captured and tied up dwarf. He is slowly cut open by one of the spearmen while another of them is watching.

I started working on my chariot as well. As a base I use the high elf chariot. To test out the colour scheme for the cold ones I painted one of the old models. I like the brown and green. The chariot itself is mostly finished and can be seen in the last picture.

Do you think the colour of the test-cold one will fit with the chariot?

Last but not least is an old knight errant. He has a horrendous mould-line on his head and I'll have to fill in a few gaps with green stuff. The horse barding is rather rough, since years ago I thought cleaning plastic with acetone was a good idea *grins*.

The spearman are finished. The movement trays and bases are now properly flocked and painted. What a difference it makes! I ran out of the little dragons I put on the shields so for the banner I had to improvise a bit.

The first shade is also done. Those models are fun to paint!

Next up is a mistress/dreadlady. The picture was taken before the base was flocked. I bought the Dark Eldar Lahmaean model in a bit of an impulse as I thought it looked very nice and would fit in quite well with the dark elves. It is my first Finecast model and I haven't found any faults with it except her hairpin. It broke off when I touched it. The model was a charm to paint.

I have quite a handful of nearly-finished other models. Upcoming will be the chariot and a bolt thrower!

I finished the chariot. I found it a pain both to paint and photograph it - it just wouldn't work! I paint stripped the chariot twice before I decided it was good enough. As you can see, it is a high elf chariot with two cold ones and two dark elf warriors as crew.
I plan on using one of the chariot horses as a mount for a sorceress.

Good work dude... I think you handled the chariot pretty well! It seems their tails are a bit too long I guess that was a challenge along the way. I made something similar with my Orc boar chariot. Used two of the new boars instead of the old (rather clumsy looking) boars. In my log if you wanna check it out.
And I'm still a fan of your bases , and the way you work the blue.

Also rly great job on the dreadlady great deal of detail. Also a nice tough with the orange stones - it works well with the blue!
