Hello All, looking for feedback on my first mini!

Hello everyone here at WarSeer! After creeping around on here for a couple months, I decided to join so I can post and get some feedback on some of my stuff. Reading through some of the posts on here it seems like this is a really good community. Just got into warhammer recently. I was very reluctant at first because I've never been into hobbies of this sort but my friend was showing me some models and I came across Krell. He pretty much sucked me into this stuff. After I saw him, I wanted to paint him. I've never painted a mini before so I just want to post my Krell in here and get some feedback. Bad or good, any feedback is appreciated cause I would like to get better at painting.

I am also currently playing around with color schemes for my first army which will be Necrons.

    Thanks!

Wow - if that's your first painted model then fantastic effort (even without that caveat it looks great!)
    Welcome to Warseer!

I like the choice of colours - suitably dark and imposing with a dash of eldritch to it.

Just joined the forums and came here to post a hello, but noticed your thread. That is a very nicely painted mini you have there, and for a 1st one also that is truly a great job.

I really like he gold on his left shoulder, I wonder Whether you painted it with a metallic color, or just by blending browns?

Wow, that's a great first miniature. Reminds me of my first painting venture when 40K 2nd edition came out. If only my first attempt turned out as good as this! (although it was about 15 years ago now)

It is actually some copper metallic paint that you can apply an activator to that will give it the green copper patina. I just didn't apply the activator, highlighted with gold, and inked it with devlan mud. I tried a bit of blending on the cape but it didn't turn out too well, some people make it look way easier than it actually is!

Thanks everyone again for the great feedback!

I actually think your cape doesn't really look bad at all.
It looks like it's been worn a lot, and the bottom of the cape has been in the water, when he passed a swamp? xD

I wonder how many highlights you used for your blending? Some people use lots, and lots of highlights, with each one just a tiny bit lighter, so it will be really smooth.
So you start off with your capes main colour. Then you add just a little bit of a lighter colour, and do that over and over again.
Practice makes master (or how do you Englishmen say that?). So keep up the good work and try another blend, and another!

PS: I'm going to make a painting guide (with photos) of a wood elf glade guard. He's got a cloak, so I'll show you how I do this. I think it's going to be next week, somewhere. Maybe the end of that week, but somewhere next week. Just click my signature to go to the thread.

I didn't really use a lot of highlights at all. I kind of rushed through the paint job cause I started to see him come to life and I got a little anxious!

I checked out the thread in your sig and I must say that the glade guard looks excellent. You are very neat with your work! Hopefully through practice I can reach that caliber of painting. I'm going to read through it a little more and I'm definitely going to practice more ( by the way, we say "practice makes perfect")
