Thread: Necron Warriors

    Necron Warriors

So, I have about 80 Necron Warriors. I have 40 of them done as Warriors, but now that the new book is out, I'm wondering about what I might do with the other 40. Would it be worth doing them up as Warriors, or should I try converting some to Immortals or something else? I already have 20 Immortals, but I love them enough with the new codex that I wouldn't mind having more...

    So, what's your advice?

    Thanks, all!

I just converted 40 Warriors to Immortals by buying Tesla Carbines off e-Bay and adding shoulder pads. If you wanted Gause Blasters, I'm sure you could find those for even cheaper.

A few could be converted (assuming you've got a bits box) into crypteks and court lords using staffs, cloaks etc more could be converted into RP markers, you could turn some into flayed ones(can't be worse than the finecast ones IMO) and as you've said convert more into immortals or just leave as basic warriors they not bad.

I guess that would be part of my question, then. Are Warriors good enough that I could feasibly use 80 in a game?

    100 or none.

KK a prob in the necron dex imo is its troops. They are not bad, but u got such a huge range of amazing options in the other slots that i really see no reason spending points in warriors or immortals.Just use squads of 5 in reserve for late objective grabbing or a big blob of 15-20 warriors with crypteks and hqs.Their main advantage i think is their ability to take a ghost ark so u can give it to the crypteks.

warriors are an amazing troop choice. They are cheap and if you put them to hold an objective in terrain near a ghost ark, a huge amount of firepower is needed to remove even 5 models. Give them a cryptek/lord and it becomes ridiculous. Most will try to engagement in CC but since you anticipate such a move, most of the times you can counter it easily. And their gauss flayers do help sometimes.

I think their main advantage is obliterating any vehicles within 12" of them... especially from the back of a Ghost Ark and being ridiculously hard to kill.

    Re: Necron Warriors

I'm afraid Warriors lack of range and mobility, coupled with their fraility in assaults, makes them quite a weak choice - they just aren't decisive enough in the game to warrant spending too much on them. Ghost Arks are very expensive for a transport that moves very slowly, so putting too many of them into a list will just increase the points your spending on units and weapons which aren't decisive enough to beat the enemy.

I still use a squad of 12 and a squad of 5 in my games, plus 5 Immortals, but only defensively and for holding objectives. The large squad can take a few more hits before dying but apart from that I wouldn't go too high on splashing out the points on these Troops choices.

An exception to this is a Phaeron equipped with a Resurrection Orb and accompanying 15+ Warriors. You can lay down a lot of hits at range and thus not waste the squad's potential in battle.

    Re: Necron Warriors

I think horde Warriors is viable and I have 130 Warriors, so I am always pondering ways to use a lot of them outside of Apoc, I would probably consider something like :

    HQ (720pts)
    Phaeron : Warscythe, Mindshackle (1)
    - Necron Lord : Warscythe, Mindshackle (1)
    - Harbinger of Destruction : gaze of flame, Solar Pulse (1a)
    - Harbinger of Destruction (1b)
    - Harbinger of Destruction (1c)

    Phaeron : Warscythe, Mindshackle (2)
    - Necron Lord : Warscythe, Mindshackle (2)
    - Harbinger of Destruction : gaze of flame, Solar Pulse (2a)
    - Harbinger of Destruction (2b)
    - Harbinger of Destruction (2c)

    TROOPS (884pts)
20x Necron Warriors (Phaeron (1), Necron Lord (1), HoD (2a)
20x Necron Warriors (Phaeron (2), Necron Lord (2), HoD (1a)
    14x Necron Warriors (HoD (1b), HoD (2b)
    14x Necron Warriors (HoD (1c), HoD (2c)

    FAST ATTACK (210pts)
    7x Canoptek Scarabs
    7x Canoptek Scarabs

    HEAVY SUPPORT (180pts)
    Annihilation Barge
    Annihilation Barge

    TOTAL - 1994pts

Use the scarabs to grant cover to the relentless warriors, as well as using cover of Darkness to get in range. Res Orbs everywhere, loads of gauss and Eldrich Lances. MSS and Warscythes hidden - could be fun. You could bump the Barges for Spyders but I like the Barge too much - cheap for what they do.

    Re: Necron Warriors

I don't particularly care for converting my Necrons, to be honest. I would if I thought the return would be worth it. I play Orks, too, and have tons of conversion opportunities there. I have enjoyed having my Necrons be my "clean" army, so to speak. So, if Necron Warriors are still good troops, but just not particularly spectacular, I think I may just do the rest of my Warriors up as Warriors and leave it at that, especially if people don't find Immortals to be all that great of an upgrade from Warriors... I may do a couple up as members of my Royal Courts, though. I think that would be a great idea. What would ya'll suggest along those lines? I like the idea of Lords with ResOrbs and Harbingers of the Storm, but I've only played about a dozen games with the new codex, so I haven't had a chance to figure out what' good and what's not.

    Re: Necron Warriors

last week i converted 10 warriors into flayed ones, was very easy and i've found the flayed ones to always perform well for their points cost... they're mostly used for drawing fire and tying up (and eventually killing) nasty backfield shooty things like dark reapers, lootas, devastators etc.

deffinatly feel it was worth the time converting them, especially when taking the mental gw finecast flayed one prices into account.
