My Steel Legion lads have "Blood of Heroes" by Megadeth as their anthem. I have a little deployment/action montage running in my head every time I hear it (complete with fire reflected on officer's face mask).
My renegade IG are a creepy bunch though, they march out to Sinoia Caves' "Evil Ball".
Finally, my Slaaneshi Daemons ... Nothing says ineffable cosmic horror more than the words O-o-o-oa-oa. O-o-o-oa-oa-a...![]()

Ooh, I gotta jump in here.....
Ultramarines: The Smurf Theme Song
Blood Angels: The Hello Kitty Theme Song
Orks: The Barney and Friends Theme Song (that purple dinosaur kids show thingy...)
Chaos Daemons: The Sesame Street Theme Song
Tau: The Pokemon Theme Song
Yeah, I know.... I'm up way past my bedtime and overtired.... lol
Paranoia isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you think they are out to get you, it means you think you matter.
Not a theme song, per se...but I can't stop this going through my head everytime I put my Marines on a table...

Anti tank (dead armor) by a 40k Metal band called Bolt Thrower. The lyrics and music fit 40k perfectly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiA7viqt0hQ
EDIT: Just looked at the other Bolt Thrower link \m/
Speaking of starship troopers i always think of Klendathu Drop when i see drop pod marines
I personally don't think metal songs suit everything so many may disagree with these...
Space Marines - Team America Theme Song (replace america with imperium)
Imperial Guard - Kazakhstan national anthem from borat (again just replace kazakhstan with imperium)
Chaos/Dark Eldar - Looking for group: Slaughter your soul (if you only look up one, it must be this)
may add more later
Detsroy Everything by hatebreed for Orks(and orcs for that matter)Get to the choppa! by austrian death machine is a nice orky tune too, Going back a bit but Get out of my way by D-Rok for marines
Indestructible by Disturbed for necrons, Demon Eyes by Kingdom of sorrow for Daemons obviously, Spacelord by Monster Magnet for Dark Eldar, Join the army by suicidal tendancies for imperial guard, Run for cover by Otep for Chaos, Reclamation by lamb of god for tyranids, Omen by Prodigy for eldar. Dunno why but ive always seen Tau fighting to Stink fist By Tool
You are aware of what that song is about, right? If anything that one's going to be an Emperor's Children theme...
On another note: what is it with gamers and metal? If I was making a 40K movie, there would not be any metal on the soundtrack, it would be completely inappropriate. And if I get to have music while I'm gaming, I'd rather have something relaxing. Metal has its place but come on folks, it's a bit too situational to try to pretend there's an appropriate metal track for each 40K race, no? Or any 40K race, for that matter...
I feel like I'm talking to the me of 15 years ago here. God I was an idiot.![]()
Idiots... nothing can live forever.
I can't think of many more scenes more METAL than a guy with a machinegun and a chainsaw-sword standing atop a pile of skulls, in front of ruined buildings wracked with fire, explosions and lightning, facing down hideous demons.
For some reason, in my mind, the Imperium seems to suit big baroque pieces- in particular Bach and Vivaldi.
Somehow the very neat perfection of it provides a counterpoint to the chaos of the setting, whilst also invoking the power of it. I've heard these pieces played properly, i.e http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBVAtnG3OoA, where the organ has 64 foot long pipes for the bottom end, and it shakes the floor and your body as it is played.
EDIT: at the OP. If you're after something suitable for Wood Elves, have a look at Jethro Tull....

Definitely true. Most of the songs on my 40K playlist are more bombastic orchestra pieces from various soundtracks though, so I didn't figure people would recognize them when I listed them.
Edit: For example, would anyone have any idea what I'm talking about if I brought up the Total Annihilation soundtrack? Now that was a fantastic game.
Edit: Whaddya know, it's on YouTube! The game was full of great music like these.

Draigo's Razor: When presented with multiple explanations for a new piece of 40K content, the most likely answer is the one intentionally designed to make you, personally, angry.

Kommanda Shinbash's Misfits - 1500 pt Orks
I agree with the orchestral stuff. Its a bit cliched, but Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries for Valkyrie/Vendetta-heavy IG lists. I also am partial to O Fortuna from the Carmen opera for Space Marine drop pod lists.
Although I will admit to listening to Matallica's Unforgiven as I paint my Fallen Dark Angels...![]()
My main army is an outflanking doublewing army led by deep striking Samael master of the Ravenwing,
so this- http://youtu.be/ug9Czjuoihw -is the only answer.
Then there is my mid and nidzilla nids army- http://youtu.be/SMWi7CLoZ2Q
The 21st Emperor's Saggitarrian Rifles have several, but without doubt the main one is "The British Grenadiers". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDKn3nl9FeY Mostly because I hummed it very loudly when facing down a Tyranid horde army with an all infantry (give or take a Demolisher) force. That beautiful moment when he realised he was fighting outnumbered...
And Col Shaw, are there any batreps for the UN Imperial Guard?
Now just doing Battle Reports.

"this is the best 40k stuff I have ever read." (Carltmc)
As i said in my post, I don't think all the armies suit metal, but there are some:
-Emperor's Children (They kill people with electric guitars!)
-Daemons (Something that violent and out of control suits metal)
Orks suit a rock song but not really metal, but I personally think most other races suit other types of songs (whether ironic or serious)
