    Does stomp have special rules?

The description of stomp states that it is an extra attack that has the ASL special rule. That all makes sense. What I was wondering however was if a stomp also has any other abilities that belong to the model like killing blow, poisoned attacks etc or even ASF that would cancel out the ASL. Reading the description it does not seem like it would benefit from extra rules as it states that it seems to define its parameters in the desciption of it and makes no mention of gaining any bonuses other attacks may have. Still wanted to make sure though.

    Cheers people

    The FAQs are really useful.

    Indeed they are.

Still wish they would have written it even clearer, something like "It is always resolved as 1 (or D6 for monsters) hit/hits at the basic strenght of the model, without any other effects", since that seems to be the intent, as people still argue whether things that are not literally "special rules, equipment or magic items" come into play...

If the strength of the model is affected by a special rule, spell or magic item does this affect the strength of the Stomp?

    One can only wonder.

Yeah, that one is annoying. The way we have interpreted it is that if it is a boost that is "always on" like a Big Name then it actually modifies the stat and is not considered separate from the stat for the Stomp rule. So with Giant Breaker your Tyrant is always S6, it is just a direct modification to his stat so when Stomp comes along it looks and sees S6. Something like strength on a weapon, even a magical weapon, is specifically only used while swinging in combat so it isn't a change to the profile, it is a modification on top of it so Stomp sees S5 and ignores all the +#s.

It seems to me that you can use the model's modified Strength for the Stomp, it is is only indirectly affected by the characteristics modifiers, whereas Armour Piercing or Multiple Wounds apply to the attack directly.

Also, if the target model is subject to special rules that alter it's Toughness and its saves (Scaly Skin and Regeneration are special rules...), those affect the Stomp attack in the same way as does the Strength modifiers.

    Interesting interpretation guys!

This brings me directly to the Daemonic Gift Awesome Strength.
Now this Gift gives you Daemon (Thirster only) "Strength 10" - (i.e. not +4 Strength or anything like that.. We're talking Strength 10, period).

My interpretation of the FAQ led me to believe that you still had Strength 6 for Monster Stomps.
Daemonic Gifts are described as 'Special Rules' by the FAQ.
The FAQ also says that 'Special Rules' never interact with Stomp.
This never made any sense to me with regards to Awesome Strength.. but I could never the less not get around the fact that RAW seems pretty clear.. Or at least seemed clear to me, right up until now when I'm suddenly not sure anymore..

I doubt I'd be able to convince my friends though.. With that you guys have said in this thread so far I mean.. They'd just say "Too bad man, read the FAQ!"

Would be fun to have a S10 stomp. However very few models that you could stomp would actually require more than a S6-S7 to wound on 2+ anyway.

That is a very good question, I can see the +1 to wound working, but if the flaming attacks transfer, that'd be nice to know too....

Re: Does stomp have special rules?

"Flaming attacks" is clearly a Special Rule (being in the chapter so named in the rulebook, pages 66-79), so that is without question out, but the +1 to wound works if you interpret the FAQ to mean "stuff actually labeled with the term *Special Rules'", rather than meaning "rules that are a bit special, and not part of the basic stuff that applies to everything in the game".

Re: Does stomp have special rules?

Same there; Spells are not Special Rules, but the FAQ actually says "special rules", without the capital letters... noticing that now I personally leans towards the interpretation of if being intended as an attack at your listed strenght, without any modifications, rather than regarding the term Special Rules...

But there is no clear RAW solution, you will have to make it clear with your gaming gropu/opponent/TO before the game to decide how to play it, until the FAQ is readdressed.

Enchanted Blades of Aiban from the Lore of Metal states - All attacks count as both magical, Armour piercing and because of the Lore Attribute - Always count as flaming. So because it is a spell it would effect the Stomp attack?

Just as a point of clarification, the Enchanted Blades of Aiban does not give you flaming attacks as the Lore Attribute stipulates that only wounds caused by spells from the Lore of Metal cause flaming attacks.

...unless you want to go into the situation where you needed a 4+ to hit, rolled a 3 on the dice, and because of the spell's +1 to-hit bonus scored a hit, you could argue that any wounds resulting from those hits were caused by a spell from the Lore of Metal...

    (Ok, not really...)

But anyway, again; Armour Piercing is out (being no question a Special rule(p.67 BRB)), but you will have to ask yourself, do you see it as Special Rules or "special rules", for the other (the +1 to-hit is of course irrelevant in any case)? Magical attacks isn't a "Special Rule", unless it is part of a creatures entry under, well, its Special Rules (including "Army Special Rules" in the start of an Armybook, stuff that are explained there and then just repeated by name in a particular units entry), but it is "special" as opposed to "commonplace"...
