Something I realized while checking the rulebook because GodlessM in the other thread pointed out that there is no actual written rule that a garrisoned building is considered to "be" the building they are in, and I answered that it is just that this effectively becomes the case...
And then I realised...
...it is just, rules as written, for the actaully noted instances of shooting or casting spells, at or from the building, and when you are assaulting it. It doesn't actually come into effect for any other rules, does it?
If your general or BSB is in a building you would still measure from the model the 12" range, and if it is the unit garrisoning the building that needs to use Ld/re-roll from them, you would measure to one of the handful of models you have placed in/on/next to the building to indicate it is garrisoned (while you place the rest of them off the table). Same for various other effects that are not spellcasting, e.g a Vampire sticking his head out the window to yell at his minions to march.
Think we have played it wrong two years now, making hte assumption that you always measure to/from the building. Have I missed a FAQ or rulebook passage adressing this, and how have other people been playing it?
(It gets a bit headachey with things that affect models, not units, with-in ranges, but is not spells, such as the Ogre Kingdom whatsitsname icemonster, doesn't it?)
