Tank shock

I have just had a tank shock declared on me by a valk, I said it wasn't a tank, and he said you don't have to be a tank to tank shock. I looked through the tank shock rules over and checked the FAQ and I can't find it anywhere, all though I know you do have to be a tank to tank shock. We've moved on (I let him do it), but can anybody tell me where it is so I can show him?

I think you only have to have the TANK rule to RAM (or have special rules enabling you to do so).

Well, if any vehicle can Tank Shock, then why do Ork Trukks need special equipment to be able to TS? Yes, only tanks can tank shock barring special equipment.

the tank shock rule is explained in a chapter called tanks and the first paragraph says that 'tanks may decide to...'. As far as I'm concerned that makes it pretty clear that this rule refers only to tanks, don't you think?

As a further example, Dark Eldar transports (which are not Tanks), must take a vehicle upgrade (Shock Prow) to able to use Tank Shock. If any vehicle could do this, what's the point of the upgrade? More ammo for your arguement

While more a fluff issue than a rules issue, surely the best way to avoid a Valk 'tank' shocking you would be to duck?

Thanks Carras for the rules bit, after looking at the first paragraph I saw it.
Thanks for the help everyone else, I had already tried convincing him through logical thinking, but he said as there was no rule to support it (that we could find at the time) he could do it.
In the end it didn't make much difference at all, but now I know where to find it.

As I recall, a tank shock is a special type of ram, and only tanks may ram. It might be the other way around, but the point stands: one is restricted to tanks, and the other is a special type of the former.
