Friend and I played a game of 40k yesterday, was looking forward to the game, my Eldar are 0-2-2 to his grey knights and I was chomping at the bit to play when he offered.
Game was 1750, we rolled seize groun (3 objectives in total) pitched battle? He rolled a 6 to go first to my 1 and was going to go first
His list roughly was
Xenos Inquistor
Warband
3 servitors(heavy bolters?)
6 jokaero?(4 lascannons? 1 conversion beamer?)
Draigo
5 or 6 paladins in a storm raven with typhoon missile, hurricane bolters and lascannon
10 terminators?
Dreadnaught with a doomfist, flamer and some kind of bolt gun? not sure
His warband was deployed on top of a bunker on his table edge left flank guarding an objective he had placed inside, directly across the board on his table edge on the other corner was another objective on a glacier. There is a tower in the middle of the board, his side had some scattered walls, south of the glacier was a burnt out bunker, south of his warband bunker is no mans land until you reach the cathedral on my side which had the other objective. North of the cathedral was some walls.
On my left side was a giant hill that took 2/3 of my side and had one wall south of the bunker south of the glacier on my opponent's side.
His stormraven loaded with paladins is north east of the bunker south of the glacier, his terminators are south of the warband bunker as far south as possible, draigo and the dreadnaught are as close to the tower in the middle of the map as possible but behind it to take cover against anything I deploy.

First time trying fire dragons and falcons, I usually takes swooping hawks against grey knights for ***** and giggles(which isn't a smart thing to do lol), I also took the scorpions because I didn't want to proxy too much, plus I figured i would probably need a sacrificial cc unit.
1 farseer and a 5 man squad of avengers in each falcon, farseer guides the falcons for better shooting.
x10 man DA squad deployed inside the cathdral to claim an objective, two falcons and the wave serpent are sitting on the hill with the wraithlord sitting in front of the left wave serpent. Scorpions are north of the cathedral behind the wall just outside to counter the foot terminators when they get too close to my objective. Hawks are in reserve.
I roll to steal the initiative, the dice careens past the tower in the middle and actually hurdles over a wall and lands inside one of the bunkers, my friend tells me I rolled a 6.
AW YEAH STOLEN!!!!!
TURN 1 (I actually kept a list of notes this game so I dont have to try and remember everything from memory, but not so many that it slowed the game down, we were down in about a hour and 30 minutes and I was happy to note we only had to refer to the rules once or twice)
Eldar
Guide both Falcons, falcon 1 immobilizes the storm raven with the first starcannon shot(that's two six's in a row, bloody lucky), pulse laser destroys his lascannon, wave serpent moves up to the tower and starcannons two terminators to death, wraithlord moved forward and whiffed its shots on the stormraven. Falcon 2 kills another 2 terminators.
Grey knights
Paladins hopped out of the raven quite mad their vehicle is out of commission and move towards the wraith lord. Storm Raven typhoons one wound off the wraithlord, Jokaero squad fires a nasty fusillade of shots but holofield helped a lot, he rolled at least 5 or 6 destroyed results but always with a 1 on the other roll and was forced to take the lower one, after all the shooting was done against falcon 2 it was only stunned and immobilized, shaken quite a bit but didn't matter because of stuns. Terminators moved up, dreadnaught moves towards the tower, draigo moves forward.
Turn 2
Wow these holofield things are great, and guiding the falcons helps immensely. I'm off to a pretty great start, his storm raven can't move and had its nasty lascannon gone and I killed 4 terminators already. But that could change dramatically, my eldar don't exactly have a stellar record(sorry guys lol I guess I shouldn't try to CC grey knights all the time, stop staring at me striking scorpions)
Eldar
Seeing his paladins have hopped out I see an amazing opportunity to try out these new fangled fire dragons everyone talks about. The Wave serpent careens towards the paladins and dumps its load of fire dragons eager to eat some paladins alive. Their aim is true, hitting 9 and out 10 shots and making 9 successful wounds. He rolls for his invuln saves and is 1 short of saving his squad, all of the paladins are dead, victims of melta. Wow that felt AWESOME, know I see why so many people say take 3 units of fire dragons all the time.
WL sadly misses the storm raven again, seeing that the grey knights left flank had collasped utterly I flat out move falcon 1 and hide it in a ruined bunker ready to flat out into the objective when I need to,(too bad he didn't put anyone in to guard the objective, he figured he was going to wipe my army off my the table.)
Grey Knights
Draigo being incredibly angry at losing 400+ points of paladins charges forward with the dreadnaught, between his bolter, the dreadnaughts flamer and the stormravens hurricane bolters managed to kill 5 fire dragons who fail their casulty test and run away a full 12". The Jokaero squad destroys the pulse laser and starcannon on the previously immobilized falcon, leaving it with its utterly impotent 12" shuriken catapults. Terminators move closer to the scorpions position.
Turn 3
Wow.... all those paladins just gone. I have a serious lead now but had to contend with the dreadnaught and possibly draigo soon with my wraithlord. That one falcon is just taking a beating but there really wasn't anything else for that squad to shoot at, that conversion beamer has insane range.
Eldar
(that's twice now we forgot I had swooping hawks in reserve to roll for)
The x5 DA and farseer squad hop out of their falcon and take a stroll on the far side of the hill out of LOS from that jokaero squad. Falcon in the bunker moves out and destroys the typhoon launcher and hurricane bolters, leaving it only one more damage result away from wreckage. The striking scorpions I move around the wall and take pot shots at the 3 terminators, failing to wound anyone. Unfortunately are out of range for assault but it certainly has their attention. Wraith lord and and dreadnaught attempt to get closer to each other.
Fire dragons keep running.
Grey Knights
Terminators assault the scorpions, killing 7 of them, only the exarch manages to kill one, scorpions fail leadership and run away since terminators can't sweeping advance.
Jokaero easily wreck the wave serpent.
Turn 4
Terminators are getting awfully close to my objective, my friend isn't scoring anything yet though, his jokaero although contesting one can't actually hold it, it's up to his terminators to score something or at least contest.
Eldar
Attempt to deepstrike hawks behind the bunker, but scatter off the table edge, mishap let my friend place hawks back on my hill, dangerous terrain test kills 1. The other hawk manages to deepstrike on target just outside in front of the bunker. Throw two pie plates at the bunkered jokaero but do no damage.
I make the mistake of moving my falcon in this turn which I would regret later to score on the objective on the glacier, I make sure my front and side armor are facing outwards and my back is to the table edge.
Scorpions run away 4", fire dragons regroup and run towards draigo who is trying to help the terminators take the cathedral. WL finally has dreadnaught in LOS manage to get two glancing shots and destroys the doom fist.
Hawks on the hill run towards the fire dragons, hawks by the bunker shoot at the jokaero, killing a servitor and wounding the inquistor
Wraithlord assaults the dreadnaught and manages to immbolize it and stun it, taking no damage in return.
Dire avengers and farseer move closer to the church.
Grey Knights
Jokaero shoot the hawks, amazing miss all of the lascannon shots, but wipe out the squad leaving only the exarch behind.
Terminators catch the fleeing scorpions who regroup but get wiped out and consolidate towards the church contesting.
Dreadnaught assaults back the wraithlord but whiffs and gets the rest of its weapon's destroyed for it's trouble.
Turn 5
Jeez I might have this in the bag as long as I can contest the church
Eldar
Exarch flys over the bunker and kills two jokaero with its sunrifle but dont go to ground.
Dragons shoot draigo but only get one wound on him.
Farseer assaults the terminators, both miss....badly
Exarch hawk assaults the jokaero, misses, and gets beaten to death by a servo with its str 8 arm thing.
WL pretends to ignore the dreadnaught but comes around and shoots it in the rear, exploding it
Grey Knights
It's all up to the jokaero unless the game goes on to turn 6. They fire everything they have at the falcon sitting on the objective......
It explodes miraculously for the grey knights, the explosion claims 2 Dire avengers enough to initiate the morale test (5/7) they fail even with the farseer's inspiring presence rolling an 11 on the check and run away from the objective a full 12"
Terminators swing at the farseer getting one w in, farseer passes it's leadership.
Friend rolls for T6 and the game continues!
Turn 6
Gaaaah if only they hadn't broke..... well since the falcon was blown up they probably would have been shot to death during turn 6 but the nasty lascannons and conversion beamer, but with the farseer's +4 invuln and shimmer shield on the squad I might have survived possibly. Then again they ran away during the explosion so who knows?
Eldar
Wraithlord takes a nap this turn, leaving both the storm raven and my other falcon, without any kind of weapon and immbolized, one damaged result from wrecking and rewarding full victory points... it just wasn't meant to be.
The Farseer and dire avengers continue to run away
5 man squad of dire avengers join the fray alongside the farseer.
Avengers lose combat, fail leadership and proceed to run off the board.
Awesome, hopefully I killed enough to get a minor victory?
x10 squad of dire avengers continue to watch the spectacle between the farseer and two terminators and decide not to join in fortunately for them.
Grey Knights
Jokaero shoot the rest of the dire avengers that were fleeing to death, the farseer keeps running
Draigo assaults and kills 2 fire dragons who also run away because once again terminators not being able to sweeping advance, he consolidates towards the farseer just in time to watch the farseer cleave one of the terminators to death finally.
The game ends quite undramatic ally but it was certainly eventful.
Since neither side managed to actually capture anything we tied and were forced to calculate victory points to see which side could claim the morality of their cause.
Grey Knights Scored
675VP
Eldar Scored
995VP
Well over the 10% differential, which leaves us with the Eldar who brutally killed all but 3 grey knights leaving the inquisitor and his warband to ponder what chance they would have should they remain.
Fun game I was very happy I managed to pull out a win after a few hard fought ties and bitter losses that had good lessons against my friends grey knights.
A few glaring things though, I should have waited till turn 5 to claim that objective on the glacier, going early just gave my friend two chances to destroy the falcon I was lucky on turn 4 his attention was directed elsewhere, I think he had forgotten I had troops in the falcon during turn 4, otherwise he would have probably shot it on turn 4 possibly wiping the unit on turn 5. The swooping hawks I think would have worked better in a game with more vehicles, they were really the only available target to shoot at on turn 4 for his jokaero but if he rememberd I had troops in that falcon he would have probably ignored them. I'm glad I took a large group of scorpions but if I hadn't had already weakened the terminators he would have plowed through my roadblock during my own turn and probably would have been able to get close enough to assault the cathdral troops directly instead of getting tangled up with the farseer. They did ok but if I had instead maybe another wave serpent with starcannons and a smaller squad, maybe I could have shot all the terminators?
The wraithlord was a odd choice many are probably wondering why I took 1 when I had 2 falcons. Well I only have 3 wave serpents and I proxied two as falcons leaving me with one wave serpent and I didn;t want to use paper wave serpents, I was trying to avoid proxies wherever possible, using count-as where I had to because I wanted to try something new. So hence why I took the wraithlord, the twinlinked starcannon I took because usually I take a EML/ BL lord but it misses all the time so I though why not take a TL gun instead, I did get extremely lucky with several of the shots so I don't think it's omgbbqsauce but it was nice actually hitting things reliably. If the jokaero could have drawn sight on the lord or if the raven hadn't lost the lascannon he would probably would have been creamed really quickly.
My friend at the beginning of the game basically told me he was going to just try and wipe me off the board because I'm eldar and grey knights don't need to hold objectives, more or less, which is why he ignored the glacier objective.
Hope yall enjoyed, let me know what you think, about what I did or my friend, thanks everyone.
