Hey there,
I need help finding model ships that would work with 28mm miniatures. I have a concept idea for a very special Empire army that I need it for. Could you give me any suggestions?

Apart from the cardboard one (to print) from Worldworks, the only one I can think of is the old Playmobil pirate ship, I got one, it's the right size, and doesn't look as "kiddy" as you might think on a board (I used it in a couple scenarios). Probably gonna cost a lot to get though.
edit: upon googling, it appears there's quite a few different playmobil ships in fact, and they all look kindda cool, and they're all expensive as hellThe one I have is like that one:

Remember that playmobil dudes are significantly bigger than 28mm, and then it all makes sense. The cannons on the ship are actually the exact same size as Empire cannons too, btw(should give you an idea of how it'll look like).

I do have that ship, I am not sure if it would work for my idea. I am going to build an airship, cutting up a battleship adding a zepplin and some canons. I have been thinking of playing it as a steam tank, since my army will be based on 1700-1720 AD.
Any ideas of how I could pull it off? I am going to use minis from Musketter and some diffrent companies for the different units I will have. Will add some pics when I am back home.
I've been looking for model ships too for a VC army idea. I was very unsure about which scale to use. I think there were a few that were the right sort of scale but proper sailing ships were massive and therefore will be really big at that scale, if you're planning to make it a playing piece. The FW landship is a caricature of a ship.
... and then I won.
A few years ago No Quarter had an article on how to build your own ship "scenery" for Iron Kingdoms. I reckon it was issue 6, but I might just be making that number up. It was a good enough tutorial I bought the magazine for that story.
These are massive, heavy and expensive, but stilll...

There have to be ships in the scale of 28mm. I looked at the link, they are great but will cost more than it is worth. Do anyone have a decsent scaleguide for 28mm? Is it close to 1/35 or more like 1/78?
Once again, I will will show the minis that I am going to use in this project when I get home.
1/56th is 28mm I think?

I have 2 such ships that, with slight modifications of the planking on the deck, meet the criteria for a 28mm scale ship. Find youself a Lego Pirates of the Carribbean Black Pearl, snip off all the lego pips on the deck and resurface with popsical sticks then add whatever rigging you want and you have yourself an excellent ship. You can do the same for the Empress ship as well. If you go to Yahoo Groups and get on to WarhammerCarolinas and check out the pictures section, there are some photos of a large battle we had a few years back. Seahammer all the way!!
That's Lego? From that pic at least, it looks impressive.

I came across these a while ago, expensive but they look great, BUT 25mm so they might be ever so slightly smaller but you might get away with it.

I highly recommend the Ainsty ships. They aren't cheap but, given the work that would be required to replicate their results by any other means, they are by far the best value 28mm ship models on the market.

Mmh, if we're talking papercraft ships, this one is probably the best:

They are not Lego ... what you are after are Mega Bloks Pyrates and Pitares of the Caribean ships.
They take some work but they look amazing when done.

Thanks for all the links! (I'll blame my lack of replies on that I have exams at the moment).
Looking at the cost of buying the ships, I will have to rethink the idea of buying a ship and cutting it in half, it would probably be simpler for me just to build the ship myself. So of to the shop for some balsa then...
I have been thinking of the minis for this crazy project, and as I promised, these will most likely for the core of my coming Empire army. I am currently waiting on an order that I can use for scale checking against Warhammer. (Hoping it will work).

I have been thinking about the army selection and realised that I want to have priests in the army, and plenty of them! So I went looking for some priests in the same era, but I couldn't find any. The only good preacher I found was this one:

So, am I crazy for wanting to build an army based on the Great Northern War?
