Yeah, I mean I get that some people are absolutely dedicated RAW players, and that there is a point where RAI begins to get very fuzzy (many of the arguments I've read on what steadfast for detachments is supposed to mean fall into that trap) but there has to be a basic sniff test for RAW. Once you're at the point where no-one is going to pick up the technicality in a straight forward reading of the book, and instead it needs a very clever reading of the exact wording of two seperate rules, and reaches a conclusion with absolutely no jusitification in fluff or game balance considerations, then no matter how logically your position holds together, it fails the sniff test.

I'm not saying it's how I'd play it, and I went pretty WTF when I first read it. I believe it was discovered by Grotsnot over on TWF, and he has a pretty good reputation about finding weak links in the rules to send to Nottingham on behalf of the forum as semi-official FAQ material.
