    Re: Wraithlords and their Weapons

Ok, here's my take on them. I think they are best used with a Bright lance and a Wraith Sword. I will usually use three of them and the Avatar + Eldrad. I will place them behind my vehicles and place Eldrad in a tank behind them to give the Avatar fortune and one of the Wraithlord fortune. I will move all three of the Wraithlords and the Avatar as a group that can split off if they need to but I tend to try to keep them close together.

They rarely use their Bright Lance and the Avatar rarely uses his melta sword because they are usually running at the Enemy. First priority is usually Tanks, followed by Squads. If I'm assulting a Squad I am usually trying to Mind War out the guy with the weapon that can hurt the Wraithguard unless the squad has a ton of those like TH/SS Terminators. Those guys I just shoot down with the rest of my army.

They do really well vs just about everybody because I throw enough of them at a unit that one of them isn't bogged down forever. So far it has worked pretty well for me. About the only problems I have had are guys with Rending weapons like Necrons and Dark Eldar. Marines though have gotten very angry when I've charged them into their guys.

I might be wrong, but you cannot technically run with the avatar or wraithlords? Can you???

Yes, you can, they are both monstrous creatures...Why can't you run with them? There is nothing I can see in the main rule book that says you can't run with Monstrous creatures.

Oh! It looks like I missed something! Of course, the sword is really more interesting if you can run with your wraithlord!

Do your opponents not bring Missiles/Las/Lances/Melta etc ?

They certainly can, and pretty much every round they are not in assault range they do!

This adds over 50% to your speed, which gets you in combat at least a turn quicker. It's also why I noted the ShuriCannon you give them with left over points is rarely used - running is normally the stronger option (hence the ShuriCannon is very optional).

Without Run EML+Brightlance would indeed be the only game in town.

You can bring any number in Apoc anyway, regardless of formations.

So... you just wasted 120pts for ***** and giggles?

You'd get the best part of another unit for that. Certainly another unit of Troops.

    Re: Wraithlords and their Weapons

Ok I've been at work all day and haven't had time to reply so I will now.

@Bartali..yes, they bring all of those. Do they end up killing all of my Wraithlords?...no. Do they even kill one? sometimes, but I've got two more and an Avatar. Remember what I said about Fortune and cover with vehicles and stuff? yeah, that actually works. No one has ever been able to put more than one Wraithlord down to all of that kind of fire before they are in the enemy lines wreaking havoc. Except for maybe Dark Eldar with tons of poisoned weapons. Eventually with that many poisoned shots coming at them they will fall. Not so much with Lascannons and such.

@Kelanen. No, since I play for tournaments only I didn't waste those points because running them forward every turn is not something you always want to do in every mission and against every army. Sometimes it is better to just give the a lot of cover and have them bring down Land Raiders and Necron Vehicles from a distance. Especially if you know running them forward is suicide for them.

Sometimes it may seem like a waste of points, until you realize that against certain armies it is better to just sit back and shoot things. Then the 120 points is definitely worth it. For instance, you don't really want your Wraithlords going against Dark Eldar with all of those poison weapons or Tyranids with Rending so with those you sit back and shoot instead of engage. That is until you can engage something that can't handle T8 too well.

Against Dark Eldar Wraithlords are just one huge fail. They die turn 1 almost every time, and certainly turn 2. Dark Eldar were the final nail in Wraithlords and Wraithguards coffins, which is why I no longer put Wraithlords in any competitive list outside of CityFight.

    Re: Wraithlords and their Weapons

I totally disagree with you Kelanen. Sure, Dark Eldar can wound them, but they don't always penetrate cover or armor saves when it comes to Wraithlords. That means I still get my re rollable 3+ save against most of what they shoot at my wraithlords. Yeah, they do die faster but it isn't guarenteed. They have to work at it and I don't make that very easy for them. Cover lines of sight to them with terrain like buildings and large walls of ruins and even the fortuned wraithlord in front of them coupled with terrain can see them live longer.
