Avatars of War new release: Dark Elf Sorceress

I've just received this news from Felix:

Avatars of War new release: Dark Elf Sorceress

In between so much apocalyptic testosterone comes a "break release" for Dark Elves, a female figure: a Dark Elf Sorceress in full trance of magic invocation.

The blister comes with six magic flames to glue wherever you prefer to emphasize the magic spell effect.

A "break release" is a release that is out of the current army season. On every army season there will be some break releases to make releases a bit more varied.

    Hope you like it!

Obviously the flames should be stuck to her hair to illustrate why it's a bad idea to use that much hair product

Apart from the hair it's really nice, though a decent OSL paintjob could probably fix that.

Fine about the break releases, especially since we need more dwarves!

On the one hand I'm not a fan of this model, but I expect more than enough Dark Elf collectors will be and that's what count, especially to make it financially viable. On the other hand I like these stranger character releases and the Dwarf-imitating Goblin chief more than all.

I like it, the hair isn't anymore silly than the current GW Witch Elves. I prefer it to AoWs old sorceress. The little flames are ok, though they were dog poos the first time I saw the picture though.

I think the hair is meant to be flying up because of the magic, as evidenced by the fact her clothes do that too. If you've ever watched any anime series or movies, you'll get what I mean. In animes, magic is like a huge fan blowing from under you

The flying hair does make her look a bit top heavy, My first thought was Banshee. I'm not sure If I'd buy this model, maybe with an other head

Indeed, though it works better with moving pictures than a static model. Maybe buy one and paint her hair blonde, then if you get dominance in SoM you can replace your black haired sorceress with this blond one.

I love it. Also, I get a distinct "plastic GW Dark Elf Sorceress likeness" vibe. The clothes (especially the top), the little thingies hanging from the waist, even the staff is kind of reminiscent of that model.

I'm not crying "copy!", I'm saying it looks similar in gear, if not in pose.

Oh dear. I can see what they were going for here, but...it just doesn't work. The whole thing just comes across silly, and it's a real shame to see that.
Come on AoW, we need another model up to the standards of the Lord of Torment, Marauder Champion, or Dark Elf Queen!

Well...I see what they're doing, but it just seems odd in miniature form. The flames are an interesting accessory, I guess.

Ah, I think I know what's off about it (IMO).

The "anime power-up" effect is usually drawing power from within - usually to some level of physical strain. There's none of that here - she's just daintily walking across the room...while yelling. Maybe she's walking over a giant fan. The other use of that effect comes from meditation, in which case she should be eyes closed and lips closed, with a more purposeful pose (both hands on staff; no staff, hands up in stereotypical meditation pose; etc.).

Right now, she's underwater and gasping for air...not sure how the fire fits in
...and a little help comes in a little glass vial in a gun pressed against her anatomy...

4 dark elves, 2 high elves, 5 dwarves, 3 orcs, 3 goblins, 4 chaos heroes, 2 human zealots, 1 human barbarian, a wood elf, a chaos dwarf a beastman, a Minotaur, a vampire, a necromancer and still not a single human knight there is only one good human knight on foot miniature amongst every miniature company I can think of (thank you maelstrom banelords) what the heck avatars of war, why no knight love?

Back on topic, with the new plastic dark elf sorceress on dragon, and the vamp ladies on the coven throne, it would be easy to head swap with one of those nice plastic heads and have a great dark elf/vamp sorcerous, heck I think she's wearing vamperellas outfit anyway.

Really liking it as a possible mage for my wood elves. Too bad I've got 4 on foot already... Might work as a BSB though...

Don't forget the human priest, the human "witch hunter", another goblin (a shaman with a mushroom staff that isn't on the site, but is available through distributors), and a lizardman (also not on the site, but available through distributors).

Back on topic, I really like this model. The casual walking pose is a little awkward though. And the hair actually reminds me of Daemonettes more than Dark Elves.

I'm glad to see a Dark Elf from AoW that isn't wearing dragon scales.

Oh, I didn't say it was well done, I just pointed out that suggesting that her hair should take fire was probably missing the point (if in a somewhat amusing way)

Oh, I wasn't even referencing you - I had to go back and check and see why you quoted me I pegged it as an anime pose as soon as I realized it wasn't some sort of Sea Elf. I just added the quotes as that pose is so common in anime it's practically a meme of some sort (maybe it already is, I don't troll the internet enough to know).

The back flap makes it look like she's breaking an all-mighty wind.

Hehe, poor Felix, now I get why he sticks to his boring extended arm pose, if that's what happens when he tries and change

To each his own I guess. I think this is fine. The posing isn't fabulous, but it's not bad either.

It would be better if she were leaning forward/running. Given that pewter is malleable, it should be easy to make it look like she's running- which will make more sense with the hair and the face.

I kinda like it, I like the whole concept of the models, the idea she is summoning her dark power for some sort of death, the waist proportions do seem abit off
