Mantic/Vampire Counts Army - Any suggestions?

Did you read the rest of my post? I guess I don't think about the money aspect of it. It more as to do I guess with my definition of the game and other peoples. When i decide to play a game (any game not just warhammer, I used kings of war and warmachine as examplea above) rules aren't what defines it for me but rather the whole package of rules and minis.

I am not trying to demean anyone and I would not refuse game, nor do I think other minis/games are bad. Don't know I dont view it as elitlist but the money thing doesn't factor into why I have this point of view, infact didn't really cross my mind, so looking at it from that lens I can see how you could view it that way.

Sorry if I wasn't making it clear, I wasn't targetting at you in particular, it's just an attitude I've seen on the forum before and it's unfortunately common, I did see that you 'see both sides' so to say so I apologise for making it unclear what I was alluding to.

Its funny you mention something like this. Because if two people I hadnt played with before asked me for a game, one with an all/mostly mantic army and one with a all/mostly warhammer army. I would play the person with the correct GW models.

No such things as correct models, its a game, you can use whatever models you like, out curiously, is this attitude just towards the mantic range? what about if someone had a army of witch elves made from the raging heroes range? would you refuse to play them? those models are actually more expensive than the GW models and hell of a lot better than the current models GW offer.

I personally have mixed feelings about the mantic models, I like zombies, I like the ghouls more than the GW ones, for my VC army I have models all over the place, Mantic zombies, teutogen guard for grave guard (don't have a complete unit yet as they are hard to get hold of ), GW vampires, a avatars of wars vampire, a vampire i picked up on cool mini or not, a Rackham wolfen for a varghulf as I wanted a werewolf rather than a silly giant bat that has wings but can't fly, avatars of war necromancer.

At the end of the day the GW zombie models are horrid, why should someone buy them when they can get better models for half the price?

This is the last I am going to comment on this since I don't want to derail thread. But as stated above the cost of the models have NOTHING to do with my preference. You should read my last posts it pretty clearly defines my thoughts and I think others who have the same notion against companies like mantic.

I have read them, but I get the impression you dont like the mantic range because it looks like a cheap knock off, my question was would you feel the same if the models are actually nicer? The example of the mantic zombies is a good one, they are much nicer models and half the price, why should anyone have to buy the gw models if they haven't updated them since 5th ed? On a side note who actually likes the gw zombies?

Getting away from individual standpoints on using Mantic models for games of Warhammer and whether it's right or wrong, I thought I'd best give an update.

On Friday I ordered the VC army book and I'm now waiting for it to be delivered. I also relented and bought the army set (it was 30% off, what was I supposed to do?), so very soon I'll be putting the army together. What I think I'll end up doing is kitbashing the Ghouls and Zombies to make models that could, at a push, represent either unit type, but we'll see - I'm going to look at the army book before I start glueing things together.

I'm really looking forward to putting this army together, so much so that I might even start up a Plog to chart its progress. Just out of interest, I've been mulling over the idea of chucking a Banshee in with the GG and a Wraith in with whichever unit ends up being largest - how useful is Terror nowadays?

Terror isn't all that amazing in 8th with the changes to the bsb rules, honestly I would rather have vampires of necromancers as my support characters just so you keep casting IoN.
