    Corrupting a Warlord Titan

    So it begins...

A couple of days ago, Word Bearer Ships managed to intercept a "Universe Parcel Service" barge...and boy did they make a catch. The shipment, originating from Forge World Michigan by Adeptus Mechanicus Masters "Engen Studios", they captured a brand new Warlord Titan. During the travel through the warp, the titan suffered minimal damage...typical for such long range shipments.

Now, in the hands of the heretics, daemons are already standling in line to possess this behemoth.

So it begins...the long journey from a loyal Warlord to something much more sinister an evil. It will join ranks with three Reavers and four Warhounds, all in the hands of one of the oldest Word Bearer battleforces in existence, dating back to what is called the "2nd Edition retreat" to the Eye of Terror.

    So it begins...

    Re: Corrupting a Warlord Titan

    Thanks LokkoRex

So today the first tests have been done. I confess that the first couple of posts might be pretty boring as I will be doing some experimenting to get the right look.
Actually, the old bloke that I am, I'm a sucker for the pretty cliché look of Chaos of old, basically trims and spikes. While I welcome the more and more evolving look of "modern" Chaos (especially what Forge World does), the Warlord will have to follow the old school style I also applied to two of the Reavers I converted from loyal to Chaos.

    My basic plan is:

    - Add trim and spikes
    - Add battle damage
    - Add demonic possession

Furthermore, I want to make this more an eyecatcher than a playable model (at over 20 pounds, it isn't easy to lug arround anyway), so I will both add indirect LED lights to create moody effect (like a red "collar" around it's head like Horus' armour) and I will try to add one or more steam generators from model trains to get that daemonic look right, with LEDs shining into the steam.

Today, I found a couple of minutes to test some stuff on one of the "toes" which came off during shipping/unpacking.

I am doing the trim out of sprue-cutaways, which I shave down unregularly with a knive. Since I don't want to simply glue them on (done that with one of the Reavers...have to reglue at least three of them everytime that thing goes travelling), I needed to find a way to fix them more permantently. My first idea was drilling holes in them and screwing them on with tiny screws. Then, I thought, why not add spikes already?

First idea was to add threaded steel rods and later get spikes I could thread on, but that would sadly have been to expensive to do it on the whole thing.

So I decided to use steel nails, cut to length. First blood (which is important for a Chaos Titan) has already been drawn! The steel nails are spikey as hell, and give an uneasy feel, which I like very much! I want this thing to feel uneasy to everyone who is around, as if falling into this kit will mean a direct transfer to the hospital.
The prevent this from actually happening, I will apply heads/helmets to most of the steel nails (actually everybody who sends me/gives me anything to put on there will be imprinted on one of the banners the Titan receives) so they no longer are dangourous. The rest will be covered with wood when transporting the thing. Whoever gets hurt afterwards knew what he was closing in on

So, this is one of the toes:

The precut nails, they will help to fix the trim onto the armor. Long and short ones to add some variety

My dark gods have never been picky about that

everything that looks rotten or comes from the 40K universe is fine

Currently working on the other seven toes, so I get them done quick as it will be boring to post the same thing over and over

    best regards

Ah, perfect. This just arrived. Five meter of RGB LED Strips, can be cut to length as needed, plug and play

Will be used for the collard around the head and beneath to shoulder armor. The only stupid thing is...I want to give it a read glow, as I think that fits for Chaos...but as all my Titans are red...well....first problem to solve

    Re: Corrupting a Warlord Titan

    Sorry for the delay.

When planing further work in the Warlord, I decided it would be a great idea to actually build the Chaos Reaver I have lying around since more than a year to get some inspiration (and completing my Reaver collection (Armorcast, Loyal FW Reaver converted to Chaos, actual FW Chaos Reaver)), and that was a good idea.

I also repaired all the damage the Titan took from shipping.

This weekend, I finally found time to work on the Warlord again. During the assembly of the Chaos Reaver, I picked a couple of interesting parts to make green stuff moulds of, so I can easily make copies of the iconography for the Warlord. Currently I am waiting for ten Chaos Tank sprues (the one with all the spiky stuff) to further add detail.

Having aquired a nice Large Format Printer and some good printable fabric, I am also currently designing the banners for the Titan.

Today I made good progress on the right leg, nearly finishing most of the fleshing out of the foot. For the trims, I simply used sprues which I irregularly cut with a hobby knife to get the "beaten" trim look similar to the Forge World Warhound and in some degree Reaver (which has them in a much more shallow look).

The Chaos stars in the "corners" are made of the chaos stars which come with the Chaos Reaver to modify the loyal weaponry, and are simply cut at 90 degree.

The "claws" on the front toe are made of tyranid bits, basically resembling daemon corruption/modifications to attack any foes which are looking to slam their meltabombs on there.

Furthermore I added a vehicle Chaos Havoc launcher to the hip joint, as I found this a perfect place for an anti-infantry and small vehicle defence system as it can fire at all troops attacking from left/right flank. I will add similar launchers under the hip for the area beneath the legs of the titan.

Smoke launchers have been added to the front toe to further distract infantry when rushing into the "blind spot" with melta weapons/chain fists.

Chains will be added to most parts of the Titan simply for "rule of cool" and will later be filled with trophies (heads, bodies etc.)

are you planning on going banelord? http://www.emperorschildren.net/wiki...8/Banelord.jpg

A new head, and a tail would look awesome IMO, rather than just putting icons, chains and spikes all over it.

    Re: Corrupting a Warlord Titan

Tail will be added for sure, not too certain about adding a completely new head. Currently I am planing to modify the head in a similar fashion as the Chaos Reaver, adding fangs/growing teeth out of the armor. But if this doesn't work out (the head shape of the current Warlord is so "unmenacing" to begin with...), I might replace it with a pure daemon head. As soon as I have most of the armor on the legs modified, I will start my first babysteps in modelling muscle-like outgrowths over the legs, showing that this thing is no longer only operated by it's reactor
I will also have to check out those (I think Ogre? I don't know much about Fantasy) elefant like monsters from Fantasy, as they have large horns which MIGHT be large enough to add for of them to the head somehow. Then again I never seen them IRL.

Edit: I am thinking of these guys:

    http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/ca...d=prod1330012a

I will NOT go for a pure Banelord, as all my other Titans are Chaos Undivided. But I will make a daemon engine out of it for sure, no longer beeing powered by humans (so more like the FW Chaos Warhound which is clearly "piloted" by a daemon, less like the FW Chaos Reaver (which is piloted my renegade Princeps and Moderati).

I will also add large banner poles to it's back with LAAARGE banners "flying in the wind", also like my other Chaos Titans.

    regards

nice, looking forward to the progress. I've been considering buying one of these in the future, but to be chopped up to be used as terrain (a downed warlord), as I'd get more use out of is that way.
