i've just gotten into AI, only played 3 games so far, but i've thoroughly enjoyed it. the rules are extremely simple, but don't suffer for it- the simplified nature of everything means you don't get bogged down in special rules and stat comparison tables. the movement is the best part of the game in my mind, it is very elegant and subtle, and probably the most realistic movement phase of any GW game.
everything you do in-game makes sense, every design decision seems like it had a lot of though put into it- no WTF moments, like you get in 40k quite often. it's all very fluid and natural, and very quick to set-up so it's perfect for a pick-up game at short notice.
the books are quite expensive for what you get in terms of game content (but you do get a load of 40k pertinent fluff, and gorgeous pics), however they turn up for cheap on ebay quite often, i managed to pick up both books in perfect condition for a total of £22, without really trying for bargain prices.

Only if you have at least a few friends who like the sort of game AI is, as a test do they like chess and are they good at the visualizing several moves ahead part? If either of those is no then I wouldn't say so.
AI is a good game just one for a certain type of gamer.
I think more people play Wings of War than AI.
It pains me to say that as I love AI. It is one of the most challenging and tactically rewarding of the various GW affiliated games. The rules are simple to learn and master, but winning is a whole different ball of yarn.
In addition, it is pretty much dead, with the only development coming from fans on the Airspace board. To my knowledge, Wings of War is not dead and still supported, but I maybe wrong.

Hi, i joined this forum pretty much because of this threadI think the game looks awesome and i do love the 40k universe, it seems like a game that's easy to play a quick game or two. But what`s concerns me is what Easy E says about it being dead, i hope somebody could convince me that this is worth to play and as awesome as it looks

i think a lot of it is going to come down to the type of people who you play with regularly. you probably won't be able to walk into a shop, gw or otherwise, and get a pick-up game (it just isn't well known enough, even among specialist games fans), so you'll probably only be able to play with the people you regularly play with.
i took a bit of a gamble, bought the books for cheap, made some cardboard copies of the ai bases with dice on to represent the counters and gave it a go. two months later, i now have 3 other people i can play against, two of them have bought their own fleets (the third would have also, but didn't need to since he's my brother and i bought two fleets)
as the other posters have said above, if you're the right sort of gamer, with the right sort of gaming buddies, you'll love it.
take a chance, buy the rulebook second hand, look it over, play the game with counters or pieces of paper and see if you like it. even if you don't end up liking the game, there are some great pictures and background in the rulebook, and it seems to have a pretty steady value on ebay so you can always get most of your money back should you need it.

If you happen to play Epic as well AI is very good to give your planes some serious dogfighting. And it is then a good reason to buy more fliers. We used to play AI as a sidekick to Epic.
Thanks for the replies! I am already in the process of recruiting some of my friends. I bought the first rulebook from forgeworld along with two Thunderbolts, I really like painting miniatures so it i`m looking forward to that regardless if i start playing or notI really hope they are planing a few new models, especially for Chaos.
AI is a lot of fun, just invest in some small flight groups and enjoy. Tactically a lot harder to master than to play. Wings of war is also still around, now run by Ares games as wings of glory, they just went to direct distributorship and rebranded the game. All the origional stuff still works, i play both versions with no issues.
It looks pretty cheap to start, I reckon we'll give it a bash at our club soon.
