It does feel like a weak attempt to appease those who thought Fulgrim's fall from grace was poorly executed via magic sword syndrome over a much more interesting route. Unfortunately I don't think it helped, Fulgrim's fall should have been on par to Magnus in terms of tragedy but that seemed to be beyond the capabilities of the author.

I think I have read most, if not everything, that has been printed about the primarchs for the last 20 years or so. Although some primarchs have (a lot) more writen background then others, the most "powerfull" ones always seem to be Horus, Jonson, Russ and Angorn. It is woth noting that Horus is usually seen as the greatest even before falling to chaos. Jonson is often seen as his equal, Russ and Jonson fouhgt each other without either one getting the upper hand (although they were not actually trying to kill each other, and Angron is thought to be potentially the most dangerous one because of his berzerker power. So in a free for all battle, my money would be on one of them

Give it time, I'm fairly sure either BL or GW will retcon this out like they have the majority of Jonson's cooler background.

It's a shame they basically ruined Fulgrim's fall. What's so bad about it? The guy was so destroyed with grief that he wanted to escape it, realised what he had said, the deal was already done, shazam. End of Fulgrim as we know him. Thus a story could have been written about the day when possibly he regains control of his daemon infested body and goes on a holy rampage of epic proportions in the eye of terror, smiting left right and centre.

For him to basically say "Lol, daemons are no match for determined primarchs" and to get his body back is such a cop out in a sea of cop outs. Next Ferrus Manus's head will grow back.

Yea I was thinking the exact same thing. Imagine it, he finally gets control of his body back and his perfect features have been ruined as now he has 4 arms and a snake body. After cleaning up the Eye of Terror I would love to see him try to convince the Inquisition he's a good guy now.

Really? He just forced it out with will alone? Sounds like a daemon lie to me. Once a daemon gets inside your mind it should be game over (unless it gets successfully exorcised). Well, IMO of course.

Overpowering a daemon that's possessed you is something best left in anime.

Yeah, I was hoping 'one day' he beats the daemon, realises his mistakes and kills tons of traitors in the Eye of Terror. Ah well...

it's a shame, it lost much of the intresting character about him, but we can allways hopes that the `real` fulgrim wakes up one day, and see what he have done.

Pretty much since finishing Fulgrim, I'd been secretly hoping for the whole 'rogue Fulgrim regaining control and trying to help the Imperium' idea just like you guys. Which is why I was pretty much like 'meh' at the latest swerve. The whole possessed sword thing was a dumb retcon in the first place and now swerving back to Fulgrim being back in control without much explanation is putting another layer of fail over the whole thing.

This....I was pretty happy (actually very!) after reading Fulgrim - he painted a picture of a tragic Primarch and it was a pretty cool concept that the real Fulgrim was now rotting inside a painting, going mad, in some corrupted space marine battle barge - and that there could be a cool story one day of some imperial finding him or contacting him.

But when I read Primarch and saw that he had actually reclaimed his body...while this was also cool it did make me sad as I lost my tragic Primarch figure!!! Well, I guess he still is as he did fall for the wrong reasons, but he's not some demented being stuck in the painting no more!

Maybe or maybe the demon was able to trick Lucius and the others into thinking that was so.
That little scene in the crystal forest might suggest that Fulgrims soul might still be trapped in the painting.

Re: Fulgrim's So Called Kill Tally

Fulgrim was sick before the demon, because the demon underestimated possessing a Primarch it eventually got imprisoned by Fulgrim, that which Fulgrim learnt from the Demon justified & motivated his desire. This is why Fulgrim ascended to Demonhood. It would have made no sense if a demon possessed ascended. I am glad this got cleared up. Its clear why the Emporers Children fell apart. Makes me think about Slaanesh`s power to organise anything more than a mass orgy of whatever debased desires that come to mind.

    *spoilers*
Well I still consider Fulgrim tragic, after all he is literally raped by his chapter while they attempt to exorcise him. As for how fulgrim got his body back he claims that while he was trapped inside the painting he learned some kind of sorcery and used it on the daemon. The only evidence we have saying fulgrim is no longer possessed is his body trying to convince his own allies he isn't possessed. We have pretty much the same thing to go on as lucius does. What you believe is up to you, its kind of open. The daemon could very well just be lying.

We also have his "discussions" with "Ferrus" in the crystal forest, an event that probably wouldn't happen if it was still the daemon. After all, why would the daemon feel guilt over killing the friend of its once-host?

Lorgar beats Daemon-fulgrim up in the ADB short story about Lorgar. I would say that makes him top Fulgrim at this moment.

I haven't read Aurelian but from what I understand Lorgar was 'tripping' there.

    See I read it as
Lucias sees this as the fulgrim the legion needs. Not the emperors son that was weak in his eyes , but this new fulgrim and this is why he tells them to stop

Re: Fulgrim's So Called Kill Tally

The fight that killed Ferrus was his second clash with Fulgrim. The first time Fulgrim beat him hands down, without daemonic support IIRC, and left him unconscious.

As for Lorgar, I would have pegged him as one of the lower tier primarchs in regards to personal combat, given the thrashing he received from Corax and his general never-wanted-to-be-warrior-ness.
