Trying for semi-competitive 1.5k footslogging Eldar

    40K Army: Eldar
Inspired by the top-16 placing of a foot'dar list at adepticon last month, I felt inspired to try and build a similar list and try it in my semi-competitive enviroment.

    Avatar (155)
Farseer, both Runes, Stones, Doo, Fortune (155)
10 Harlequins, Shadowseer, all Kisses (250)
    2x10 Avengers (240)
3 Wraithlords, Lance and Missile (465)
    3x3 Jetbikes, Shurican Cannons (228)
    TOTAL 1493

Basic strategy is combined massive pulk of infantry taking the center of the board. Avatar, flanked by both units of Avengers, with Farseer attached to either one. Fortune for the Avatar, Doom whereever needed (Avengers shooting or Harlequins charging), Wraithlords trail the Farseer for spirit sight, unless I need them to be somewhere else and do something else. Their guns should be enough to deal with vehicles in the meta I play in. The jetbikes are a mobile element, either for some extra firepower, or more likely to claim objectives in the end. Don't know what to do with the Harlequins yet, I just ordered them (or more precisely, some woodelf wardancers I'll convert into Harlequins), but I hear good things about them. Not sure how well their Veil really works, though, average spotting distance should be 2D6x3, so 21" on average. In other words: They'll still be riddled with bullets from standard Boltgun or Lasgun shooting.

I also thought about using them for unshootable walking cover, but not sure how well it works for the same reasons...

    Constructive discussion welcome!

    Regards

Cool thing: The Veil of Tears spotting distance is actually 2d6x2, not x3. Average of 14". Harlequin are used pretty commonly as a veil /because/ of Veil of Tears. A few questions, though - why no Exarchs with the Dire Avengers? 17 points for 2 extra shots, with a higher ballistic skill, and even at 15 points Bladestorm is almost too good to not take, IMO. And why no Troupe Master? 20 points nets you an extra attack with a power weapon.

First of all, thanks for the reply. You're probably right about the 2D6 range, I might have missremembered. Been a long while since I last looked at the rules for Harlequins (having no models and all).

For your other questions, the one issue the list really has is that it's about a hundred points short. I originally had Eldrad instead of the Farseer penciled in, but I needed to cut something. I thought about cutting Harlequins as well, but the moment I started to drop below 8, I felt I was cutting the wrong corners.
The thing about the Exarches is, I don't believe they really add that much value. An Exarch with Twin Catapults adds the firepower of about 2.5 regular Dire Avengers, but in total also costs as much points as 2.5 regular Dire Avengers. What it doesn't add is another body. Once you add powers, the unit becomes even more expansive, and I just don't see the value of Bladestorm. Essentially, you give up a full shooting phase for half a shooting phase extra a turn earlier. When you're about to be charged, or when you have to kill something now, it may be worth it, but I don't have the necessary experience with Dire Avengers yet to know when to use it and when not, so I'd probably end up becoming greedy and be tempted to make avoidable mistakes.

Also, there's a psychological reason, but I'm getting way too sleepy now to elaborate further.
