old Ratskin + trading

I play the old (shaman) Ratskins in a campain and one of my Ratskins got BS 5 so I wanted to give him a gun with more power than an autopistol / Lasgun. This led to the following question:

Is it possible for Ratskins to buy (and equip) any objects bougt at the trading post as it says in their equipment entry "can be given equipment... of the special ratskin list".


Could I equib an Powersword for example, if I bought one, or as a common Item a Plasma pistol as neither are on the list?

And a further question, would I buy a Sword for 15 creds as on the ratskin list or 10 creds as on the trading outpost list.

IIRC on this, you can only ever use equipment listed on the Ratskin equipment list at the cost listed there. The normal trading post items and prices are for regular gangs, Ratskins, Scavvies and Redemptionists are different and use their own lists and the separate Outlaw trading post. Even then though, the rules seem quite clear in that they state that which weapons Ratskins may be equipped with, so no, as it's not on any of their lists you cannot equip a Ratskin with a plasma pistol or a powersword. Your best option for your BS5 Ratty would seem to be a Shotgun with Bolt Shells.

Going by the rules as written there's nothing to stop you buying either, if they came up at the trading post, you just can't equip any of your fighters with them. In roughly the same way that I could buy a Heavy Stubber as a common item for my Escher gang, but if I haven't got a spare Heavy, I can't equip anyone with it.

BTW, and again this is IIRC, the same applies for captured weapons too, if it ain't on your list, you can't use it.

just what I feared... Only normal ratys can't even get special shells for the shotgun...

So it will simply be more brutes.
