    1750 Competitive Necron

    40K Army: Necrons
    Anrakyr (245)
    -Catacomb Command Barge

    Destroyer Lord (160)
    -Semi Weave
    -Mindshackle Scarabs

    Court (330)
    -5 Crypteks
    -2 Necron Lords
    -4x Destruction Upgrades
    -1x Eternity Upgrades
    -Solar Pulse
    -Chronometron
    -2x Res Orbs

    2x Immortals (340)
    -10 Models
    -Tesla Carbines

    Warriors (180)
    -5 Models
    -Ghost Ark

    Wraiths (205)
    -5 Models
    -3x Whips

    Scarabs (90)
    -6 Models

    Monolith (200)

Lords would be attached to the Immortals. The Crypteks would hijack the Ghostbarge while the warrior squad would be left to objective camp. The Destroyer lord would attach himself to the Wraiths.

You can't assign 2 members of the same Royal Court to the same unit, so only a single Lord is needed. And even if you could, you only need a single Ressurection Orb in a unit. Save points and drop a Lord.

If you want it to be competetive then I'd drop the Monolith and use the points for something else, probably a pair of Annhilation Barges. Your army just isn't set up to make use of a Monolith and it's firepower really isn't that great. Alternatively, add two squads of 3 Heavy Destroyers, as 6 S9 shots is pretty useful!

I'm taking two immortal squads. 1 lord per immortal squad. I've been told Destroyers and Heavy Destroyers are worse than useless because they're so expensive, so I will probably not take those. I will see about 2 Annihilation Barges and adding in a single scarab base to cover the difference.

I'd think you'd definitely want the barges - you really don't have that much AT. Anakyr is great, but can only do so much.

You've been told wrong. Sometimes it's best to make your own decision on the worth of a unit rather than someone telling you something is worthless and taking their word for it.

For sure. That Monolith could net two awesome Barges which you won't be disappointed with. They won't destroy heavy vehicles easily but certainly smash smaller and lighter vehicles. It's very fun to get a fist full of hits with a pair of them too!

What I'm seeing for heavy destroyers is a 60 point Lascannon with a big footprint, a 3+ Save, and 1 wound. They are fragile, hard to hide, and rather easy to take out. I will admit, the 12" move is nice, but they have to rely on cover to not die. I'm considering taking them to tournaments, so I expect Psybacks, Long Fangs, and a a whole lot of mass high strength fire that will either have enough shots to get through the armor save or ignore it outright. If they had 2 wounds I might consider them but as of now, all I see is garbage. Regular destroyers seem even worse since I'm paying 40 points for a heavy bolter with 1 better AP, less range, and less shots on the same kind of iffy platform.

In short, convince me. If you field them, what kind of armies do you play against? How do you justify using them?

it's less about the army i've played against and more the list the destroyers are in for me. I've run 3 heavy destroyers in my list for a month now and they've done very well. they've done very well because night fighting and their 12" move and 36" range make them fairlly easy to keep safe and yet still be effective. and meanwhile the opponent is being forced to prioritise... wraiths/lycguard/ccb in their face, or destroyers 30"+ away. the destroyers frequently get a free pass in these situations. on top of that, they're not relly that hard to hide... each model has a big footprint but there's only 3 of them (at least i only use 3). with 12" move it's fairly easy to position yourself so that you can shoot a worthwhile target but only a limited amount of your opposition is in a position to see/retaliate (massive av13 vehicles sure do help with this).

i suspect in a gunline army they wouldn't do so well, as there'd be less assaulty stuff pressuring the opponents targetting decision... and when it comes down to a simple "i need to kill some of that shooty stuff" then yeah, destroyers are an obvious and easy choice.

Yeah, pretty much this! Heavy Destroyers fill a niche in the army and that is affordable heavy firepower. For 180pts you get a trio of S9 AP2 shots that have a 48" reach (movement and range combined). What makes them useful is a whole host of other targets for your opponent to worry about and take the attention away from the Heavy Destroyers. Wraiths are a good example of this.

Admittedly your list doesn't have this target saturation so it's possible they aren't suited to your army.

I still think the Monolith needs to go. It's not going to help you in a competetive sense.
