    Painting Amera plastic buildings

    Hi all,

Got some Amera admin block buildings to paint up. As they are just vacuuformed plastic they're a little limited on texture and I was thinking about getting some textured spray.

Has anyone got any experience of them and any particular reccomendations?

Hi Bodysnatcher, ive had Amera buildings in the past and i used G.W's Roughcoat paint on them without any problems. I believe that that other spray paints should be ok.
If your worried about the paint not sticking i would recommend washing the frames before construction in some luke warm water with washing up liquid and let them dry thoroughly. That should help remove any nasty grease and dirt that may stop the spray sticking.

I suppose that leads on to: Now that roughcoat is discontinued, does anyone know of a good alternative?

in regards to plasti-kote, at B&Q they sell a textured spray paint

this is the textured spray paint, they do various diffenrt effects

this is the primer, cant remember the exact one i used, but you do need to put the primer on before you can use the textured spray, or it will warp and eat away at the plastic.

thay work really well. my Amera Buildings look great.

the texture is a lot more grainy than the GW Roughcoat though , but it is the best alternative i have found.

Although textured spray can look alright, you'd be surprised at the amount of texture you can add by stippling paint onto a flat surface- These pictures aren't the best I'm afraid, but this is the Amera factory, which I just painted flat.

I've used that spray in the first link as well. Not on Amera stuff but on some scratch-built stuff. Works well enough straight onto foam board and primed over afterwards. Got an example below. Important thing to remember is to mask off anything you don't textured, the spray is not that precise!
