Just read through the whole deal... .Damn. Nice fluff, nice models (love the captain) Nice painting (really captures the mood of the army, brilliant. Especially the soldier seen in frog-eye perspective)

This whole log is pure win!

Yet more great work. Your vision for the Saturnine regiments makes me want to incorporate them into my own fluffy writings.

    Re: The Saturnine 27th

malika - Hmmmm... Yeah, that sounds way more fitting with how I imagine the fluff. The Grim Reaper in 27th's heraldry might stem from the Death Guard and Mortarion and some old campaign alongside them, yet today nobody knows. I like it. Consider it incorporated!

Chem-Dog - Haha thanks mate, I actually laughed for real and for quite a while upon reading that last part. No, sorry to disappoint, I'm a 23 year guy living in the north of Sweden currently, not about to move anywhere until autumn... I do know a few specimens who possess all those characteristics though, might have to talk to them on your behalf

JackDaw - Thanks mate, happy to have you here! Yeah, I really like how the base turned out on the tank, gives the model a proper setting. Also makes the model a hell of a lot bigger in comparison to the infantry models, and tanks suddenly look BIG (like they should...). It's crazy what those few millimetres do (what she said...).

Bob Hunk - I'm really glad to hear that "Blanche" seems to be the first word to come to mind when many of you are reading this log! His art is a huge deal of the 40k feel to me, so good to know I manage to integrate that feel into the army.

Drazhk - Thanks, welcome to the log! Kudos to having made the effort of reading through all the fluff and stuff in one go as well...

unwanted - Thanks! Would be honoured if you did, would be equally honoured if you kept somewhat to the fluff as written in this log and GomezAddams'

Currently not much (any) news on the 27th's front, just moved house from Lund in the south of Sweden to Boden in the north, to live and work in my home town during summer. Also sorely lacking money ATM, but will get some in a couple of days, and then the next round of reinforcements will be enrolled... I'm looking at getting the platoon command squad done, followed by the company command. Really looking forward to building and painting those, currently there's a gap in the "visual hierarchy" between the sergeants and the company captains.

    Cheers,
    BTB

    Re: The Saturnine 27th

Soooooo... I said no updates for a while. I lied. Found an unpainted Ogryn from my old Volkhov 4th army, and figured that... Well, why not? It's not as if I've got anything else to build/paint within the next days.

Will probably use him as Nork Deddog (this was never a powergaming army...), though if I really like how he turns out I might get two more to build a whole squad, sometime in the distant future when everything else for this army is done.

Figured that I might as well post a list of stuff that I currently want to include, though this is very much subject to change and/or omissions:

    - Company command + captain + full set of advisors
    - Infantry platoon command + 3 squads + heavy weapons squad + melta/demo sqyad
    - Infantry platoon command + 3 squads + heavy weapons squad + melta/demo squad
    - 2 Rapier platforms + crew
    - either 3 heavy mortars or 3 thudd guns
    - 2 LR Exterminators
    - Valdor tank hunter and/or Shadowsword and/or Baneblade
    - 2-3 Mechanicus sentinels
    - Rough Rider squad/s

At the moment, those are the units that are on my wish list. Going to stick to the "do-whatever-I-feel-like" approach though, since I can't for my life stick to plans when it comes to warhammer...

    Cheers,
    BTB

What are Mechanicus Sentinels? Will you use the current plastic models? Might be cool to try to convert the old school rounder shaped ones...

Ogryn looks the part as well. And if I were to incorporate them (in my Sebranda-log, for instance), I'd definitely stick with the great stuff you and mr. Addams is producing!

Not sure about this basing tanks malarky, being a long in the tooth gamer as I am - I approve of the lovely tank though, very nice.

The Ogryns nice, very nifty improvement on the originals but he seems to be missing something...

The army list is looking good, it'll be nice to see your take on the rough riders. I'm also intregued by the mechanicus sentinels, but what I'm really looking forward to is the Valdor - saw one at Warhammer world today and it looked very swish.

UNWANTED - No fluff from me yet. But there will be - how else am I going to justify all these astartes to the misses?

Hot diggity dog... How could this have happened? AGAIN?! I have missed some brilliant stuff here - I love how older stuff from your Volkov and Mechanicus have popped up!

I love that painting by the way - it's just really cool to see a hobbyist's other talents contributing to the feel of their thread. And as ever your fluff is great - I remember your saying way back that you don't have a background in creative writing? Actually, knowing that you paint makes me feel slightly better about my painting abilities - I imagine you have a slight edge in colour theory! What? Hey, it COULD be the reason dammit!!

The tank looks sweet too - you have me contemplating basing my tanks now. Or failing that ripping this whole thing off and starting trenchcoat Guard :P

You, sir, are a prince amongst men! (Though, to be honest a Female with a pulse would be sufficient right now, and pulse is increasingly looking like an optional extra! )

    Moving swiftly on....
The Ogryn. I'm a huge fan of Ogryn in general. I love the background, their rules are less than fantastic but, in the name of sanity, don't take Nork, there are few options in the game that are as ultimately worthless as he is. Grab a couple more at least to run a minimum sized squad (hardly optimal, but still a better spend of points).
As for the model itself, like Gomez, I don't think it looks quite right. After about half an hour of flicking between different pictures, I think it might be the huge expanses of skin that are the problem*. Even allowing for the larger model he's showing way more flesh than any of his smaller comrades (of course, as attached auxiliaries, they are unlikely to be initially equipped in any way that's similar to their adoptive regiments and getting a Storm-coat that big is probably quite difficult anyway). The added detail (Scarf? Aventail?) is great and it helps tie him in with the rest of the army (not to mention obscuring the horribly cartoonish face) but the model as a whole might need a few more flourishes to really make him blend in well.

    Re: The Saturnine 27th

malika - I have my ideas, you will see if/when they get done

unwanted - Thanks, on both accounts!

GomezAddams - Thanks mate! Don't hold your breath for either Valdor or mechanicus Sentinels though, a lot of infantry and stuff to go through first...

Jihad_Ragsta - Don't know mate, pretty sure I posted you a link in a PM or on your blog when I put these up! I think... And YES, go trenchcoat!

Indreth - Thanks mate, that's very flattering to hear!

Chem-Dog - haha I'll see what I can find, that sounds like desperate times! As for the Ogryn, he's temporarily shelved (a fate that has befallen him a few times already through the course of my projects...), but definitely not because of gaming effectiveness. Including (and winning with) ****** units is cool

Received the platoon command squad about a week ago, but have been working long hours all week so it's just now that I've managed to actually work on them:

The lieutenant will be receiving some viking/dread style hair once the scarfs have dried. I think they'll make for a pretty smashing looking squad once painted, if I may say so myself!

Christ there nice. The chick with the axe looks lovely and brutal, although I am about to use that same head on one of my riders

Also, why isn't she painted yet?

    very impressed so far.

Being you are obviously talented with the ol' knife n' green stuff have you not considered buying the gorgon crew and seperating them? I managed it, if you are careful most of them only require minor repairs to sleeves and you end up with 50 ish Krieg at ease?

    Re: The Saturnine 27th

GomezAddams - Thanks, though he is a guy and he is now pretty offended... And he's got an axe Reason why he's not painted is that I'm working six full days a week over summer, so not much time nor energy left for painting. Will hopefully get some paint on the command squad tomorrow though!

Vimes - Thanks! I think that it is a pig iron rebel head, if I'm not mistaken.

Sleazy - Thanks. That's actually the plan for the next platoon, it was not really a practical solution for the first one as I didn't want to make a too heavy initial investment - and one squad is still cheaper than the Gorgon sprues, even though they are cheaper per guardsman.

    Petay1985 - Thanks mate!

    Yenuliar - Renegade? Oooooooh snap.

Still haven't got any painting done, but managed to sculpt the hair on the Lieutenant. So now all that's needed is sand on the bases and then it's chaos black spray time. Really moving at a crawling pace now...

Funnily enough I very much see this guy as representing me in this army. No real reason why I feel that way, and he'll probably die just about every game to boot! He did get a haircut that looks like mine will in a couple of months though, just to add emphasis.

    Sorry for double posting!

    But I just received this:

From the kind MichaelJames, along with a highly motivating letter. Huge thanks! If ever this army gets finished, it's because of the kind people like you keeping me inspired.

And yeah, enough heads to make an imperial Aquila! And probably enough to last for the whole next platoon as well. Wooh!
