    Realm of Battle tables

Ok, seems the gamers at my local club categorise the rocky areas on the realm of battle boards as "Cliff Faces", and insist on difficult+dangerous terrain tests if you move over them(even the bits that are less than 1/2cm). Do other groups do the same?

We've always just used them as hills, I don't see a space marine (or a guardsman for that matter!) killing himself climbing up a 3 or 4 foot rise :/

I don't have the RoBB, but I do have some of the citadel hills. The tops and grassy slope parts are counted as open terrain where I play, but the rocky parts are difficult terrain. Not dangerous terrain though. Of course when I painted them, the rocks were painted brown and the rest green, so it is nice and color coded.

It just seems weird to me that they insist on calling them "cliff faces" when they're less than half the hight of a Space Marine. But then I come from a Warhammer Fantasy background, where hills are considered open terrain(they only have steps to aid unit placement)...

I don't have it the RoBB either, but like Wes I have plenty of the Citadel Hills (big and small) and have never counted anything on them as anything but open, nor have I heard of them being counted as anything but open.

I've never ran into anyone at my Bunker that treated them like anything other than what you describe. Open terrain, but they can block LOS.

It's only a house rule, you can play them however you and your opponent agree. But I can see that some unclimbable cliffs are perhaps more interesting tactically.

I own the Realm of Battle table and I categorize the sheer faces as difficult terrain.

For the cliffs we use difficult terrain and count the 'climb' as 2". Ergo a double 1 means no move allowed.
