    Lizardmen 1000 points starter list.

    Fantasy Army: BoC
    Hey guys.

Due to the recent information from Darnok regarding Lizardmen Finecast releases, I have decided to finally start a proper Lizardmen army!

I'll be working on a budget and so would like to include the battalion amongst my first purchases simply for the saving. I've written up a 1k 'starter' list which I'm considering using as the main block to build my army around in future.

Here's the list! Any feedback and criticism would be welcome!

Scar-Veteran - Talisman of Endurance, Venom of the Firefly Frog, Great Weapon, Light Armour = 136

This guy will be the general (obviously). The plan is to run him with the Saurus block, and club some skulls! I'm hoping that T5, and a 4+ 5++ save will be enough to keep him hanging around a while. The great weapon will give him 4 S7 attacks, and the Venom makes those attacks Poisoned and Magical. I think his fairly poor Initiative of 3 makes it worth having ASL in exchange for the extra strength.

Skink Priest - Plaque of Tepok, Glyph Necklace = 110

A simple caster to add some magic, and magic defence, to the army. I've given him the Plaque of Tepok as a cheap way of getting him an extra spell, as the Lvl 2 upgrade would mean I'd have to sacrifice some of the gear on either the Priest of Scar-Vet. The Glyph Necklace is there because I think it's always worth protecting a wizard if he's the only one in an army, as magic can be a decisive factor in any game.

    19 Saurus - FC = 239

Simply 19 Hand Weapon and Shield Saurus. The Scar-Vet will sit in here, as the Saurus will be my only combat 'block' in the army for now. I'm hoping they should be good enough to hold off most blocks at this level with their 4+ and 6++ parry save.

    12 Skink Skirmishers = xx

Again pretty basic. Armed with blowpipes, just to harrass the enemy and hopefully kill something fairly threatening off with their Poison. The Priest will probably run with these guys for the -1 to enemy shooting hit rolls.

6 Cold One Cavalry - FC w/ Banner of Eternal Flame = 270

I know these guys are overpriced and a bit underwhelming, but I'm aiming to start on a budget and with these guys being in the battalion, they'll be in my starter army. Not only that but I have seen them used to at least moderately good effect sometimes. The BoEF is there as a 'just in case', as you never know what someone could squeeze into a 1k army with Regen. Not only that but they're fairly quick and decently armoured, so the option is there for them to flank anything my Saurus get stuck into.

    Salamander - Extra Handler = 80

    Salamander - Extra Handler = 80

I'll probably run these 2 guys seperately, possibly just to either side of my main Saurus block to frazzle any infantry blocks my Saurus are about to enter combat with. I don't think I really need to explain my logic behind these guys considering just how deadly they are at the moment.

So as mentioned guys, there's my list. I'm happy to receive any feedback with an open mind but please bare in mind that I'm not looking to win tournaments, or anything like that, and I am working to something of a budget. I mainly want this rated as a 'stepping stone' to further things with the army!

    Thanks in advance guys!

Great list mate. Seriously very good.

Glyph Necklace is a waste. The only way to protect a skink priest is to keep him out of harms way. If anything gets to shoot at or attack him then he's going to die whether he has a ward save or not. I never give my wizxards ward saves because I keep them in bunkers and I keep those bunkers away from danger. If something does get into combat with my wizard I know that a 4+ ward save might prolong the inevitable but, the fact is he is going to die.

I'd spend the saved points on the Dragonhelm Helmet for your scar vet. Bumps his save up to a 3+ and a 2+ against fire which, since many people have the same thinking as you have, chucking flame attacks onto units just in case of regeneration, will be somewhat useful. Also protects against lore of metal assassination spells.

Alternatively you could find 5pts (venom frog thing on the scar vert for example) and then make your priest level 2. He'd have 3 spells and +2 to cast, hard to match that at 1000pts.

Otherwise great, great list. 1 awesome anvil, some truly terrifying fire-breathers, 1 good hammer and some good magic.

I agree that the ward on the skink is a waste.

Also, I would consider swapping the ward on the scar vet for the dawn stone. His AS is pretty good (especially if you give him the dragonhelm as suggested), so in many cases the rerolled AS will be better than the ward.
