start of an Air-Waaagh (now with eldar)

so i've just started getting into Aeronautica Imperialis and am loving it, seriously good game with an extremely elegant movement phase. anyway, i've chosen orks for my fleet and hope to churn out a useable army over the next couple of weeks. i've never painted an ork, and i've never really painted large areas of red, so this was a new experience for me.

first plane for the fleet- a 99% finished Fighta-Bommer and his two deployed Grot Bombs (i've nearly finished the 2 Grot Bombs in their wing harnesses, which will be fitted under the wings of the Fighta-Bommer)

he's ended up a bit too plain for my liking, so the rest of the fleet will be broken up with a more patchwork colourscheme.
for those unfamiliar with the AI scale planes, they are the same scale as Epic. the Fighta-Bommer is approx 44mm long and the Grot Bombs are approx 10mm long.
next-up, a Fighta as his wingman.

Looks cool. I like the black and white checked bits and how you have painted the canopy on the cockpit.

thank you i was really pleased with how the checked bits came out.

here's the wingman- a standard fighta, with a payload of bombs under the wings.

i did try to apply black and white markings again, but i screwed them up so many times i just gave up on this one. patterns at 6mm scale are just too fiddley :P
    next up- another fighta-bomber

i've managed to churn out three more planes over the past couple of weeks, well past the halfway mark now on these. one more fighta, one more fighta-bomber, and a blasta bommer then the fleet is complete. oh, perhaps a couple more grot bombs too, even though they're useless against my regular opponent (whenever he sees me release them, he just takes his eldar planes up to an altitude higher than the grots can take, and waits for them to die.)

as before, just trying to get a table-top standard here so i can get two fully painted fleets onto the table and actually play a game with fully painted armies on both sides. quite pleased with the scratch-built mini-gun in the nose of the last fighta there.
oh, and here's an impression of the fleet so far...

    Re: start of an Air-Waaagh

    thank you

i've just started on painting my second fleet now- the enemy, filthy eldar.

the underside is a little messy in places (now that i'm seeing these at a bigger size, i'm seeing a few areas that warrant further attention) but on the whole i'm pretty pleased with this big fella. a very pretty model, but a lot of the details are fuzzy and there are a lot of mould lines in hard to reach areas (mainly the right engine intake)

Excellent painting. I really like the blue on the Eldar planes.

thank you at first i thought the planes could do with a secondary splash colour to liven them up a bit, but i'm really liking the blue on it's own now i've had a while to think about it.
