Question about wrecked transports (automatically pinned)

The other day I was playing a 40k with my eldar army. I am using a mech army with lots of wave serpents. My opponent destroyed one of my wave serpents and claimed that since the wave serpent only had one access point that the passengers inside would be automatically pinned once the vehicle is destroyed. A few people were around the table and they also confirmed this. Since I have recently restarted playing I assumed they were correct, however I have found nothing about this in the BRB. Can anyone help me out? Does it really work like this?

There is no rule regarding the number of Access Points causing a Unit to be automatically Pinned; however, they may be required to take Pinning tests. Refer to page 67, "Effects of Damage Results on Passengers" for details. There is also the "Emergency Disembarkation" rule on page 67 under "Disembarking".

Yeah I know about them having to take a pinning test but it was claimed that they would be automatically pinned.

That sounds like a situation where you should have said, "Really? I didn't know that. Can you show me where it says that?" I find this approach works better than assuming that those making the claim are correct or that they are incorrect because it makes them support their claim without being confrontational about it. Then when they can't find the rule, hopefully, they will learn that they they were mistaken. It also tends to break the cycle of "that's how my friends taught me to play".

Re: Question about wrecked transports (automatically pinned)

They could be getting confused with 4th ed where passengers were auto pinned depending on the speed of the vehicle. The closest 5th comes to an auto pinning would be the emergency disembarking rule, but this depends on having blocked access points rather than the specific number of access points.

Bob:"A Whistling Zephyr? I waste it with my crossbow...ha I rolled a critical hit...28 points of damage, is it dead?"
GM:"What? of course not you *****, it just carries on whistling thru the trees"
Sara:"Guys relax a zephyr is just a breeze"
Bob:"Breeze my ass, it just took 28 hit points and it's still whistling at me!"
